The Notables
The Audition
- In order to be considered for membership with The
Notables, all candidates must pass an audition. There are no
exceptions.
- The purpose of the audition is twofold:
- To control the membership of the organization in order to maintain a
"troupe" approach to performances rather than an open-door
community choir approach.
- To provide an ongoing means to evaluate to a greater degree of objectivity the
minimum standard of performance set forth by the Artistic Director.
- Membership auditions will occur in January as called by the Artistic
Director. The schedule will be posted as required. Anyone who passes an audition will be subjected to a one concert probation after which the Artistic Director will consult with the Board of Directors to make the final decision to keep or dismiss the auditionee. This includes current members who re-audition.
- New member auditions are open to the the public from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m.
every Wednesday of January and August of every year. The candidate
must make arrangements with the General Manager at least one week prior to a
scheduled audition.
- Membership auditions are strictly private. New member auditions are
open.
- The audition process consists of the following:
- Presentation of a song
- Sight singing
- Brief interview
- Movement
- Bring the following to the audition:
- Application: [
MS Word OR
PDF
(preferred), OR HTML]
- Prepared music (for the pianist)
- Résumé (optional)
- Head shot (optional)
- Tips for a successful audition:
- Select a song or portion of a song that shows the best qualities of your
voice and expressiveness. Remember, the auditor may not let you
sing an entire song for whatever reason, so prepare a 16 or 32 measure
segment well.
- Dress comfortably, but not shabbily or overly expressive. Let
your singing sell you.
- Be on time and prepared. Follow directions. Your audition starts
the moment you arrive to the facility and ends the moment you leave.
- The pianist is your best friend in the world. Treat this person
with utmost courtesy and consideration. Provide the pianist with music
carefully arranged to avoid any confusion. It is recommended that
the music be placed in a three-ring binder that lies flat and has pages
that are easy to turn. Also, make sure the print is large enough
and the notes are easy to read.
- When you get a nod from the auditor, take center stage, announce your
name and the song title, the motion the pianist to begin.
- Perform as though you are the best in the business. Who
knows? You just might be!
