Peirce the apple skin You bit more than you need Now you're choking On a bad seed ("Bad Seed")
Deep inside you know, The seeds I plant will grow
One day you will see And dare to come down to me Yeah c'mon, c'mon now take the chance That's right Lets dance
Snake, I am the snake Tempting, that bite you take Let me make your mind leave yourself behind Be not afraid I've got what you need hunger I will feed ("Devil's Dance")
Thus we see that Hetfield links the metaphor of the seed, an obvious correlation, with the Tree of Knowledge and the serpent. The seed and the egg are recurring metaphors associated with autofellatio. Mr. Scheper mentioned Humpty Dumpty, although I can't recall what his point was. But the seed and the egg are both indicative of the unborn universe; they signify compleatness and self-nourishment, and it is no coincidence that in order to perform autofellatio it is necessary to assume a foetal position. But the seed, like Eve's apple, has its negative aspects as well. The attainment of the Gnosis is like opening your eyes for the first time. There seems to be a vertiginous desire, though perhaps only a temporary one, to immediately purge one's soul of the knowledge one has recently gained from communion with god through autofellatio, as though one wishes one could vomit it up like an indigestible meal, such as a Swanson's frozen dinner.
Spit it up Spit it out Spit it up Spit it out Spit it out NOW ("Bad Seed")
Or, contrarily, this could be a plea to the god-as-phallus to release the knowledge and let it issue forth from his divine mouth into the mouth of the initiate (as in the breath of god infusing Adam with life). Thus there can be said to be a kind of ambiguity, even an ambivalence, associated with the act.
A few more miscellaneous lyrics from songs not on these two albums might serve to convince those of you who are still skeptical:
Come squeeze the world and drip it down my throat...oh yeah Down my throat again....woooah ("Minus Human")
Suck up for that quick reward boy Suck up for that quick reward they said..... ("No Leaf Clover")
Come taste the fruit of god It pulses in time for you Enter the land of Nod Give the devil his due
With one twist of your head You can overcome your dread Autofellatio To dare to will to know ("Autofellatio")
