Dead and Alive
Romans 6:11-14
We definitely serve a God who sees the bigger picture. We can rest assured that He always has our best interests in mind. As humans, we sometimes tend to view God's commands as a strict list of orders to follow. As Christians however, we are to realize that our obedience to Christ brings joy and fulfillment to our lives.
in reading this passage, we need to examine what it truly means to "be dead indeed t sin, but alive to Dog in Christ Jesus..." Dying to sin involves:
1.) Allowing Christ to control your will (mind). Before sin can have power over a believer, it must first pass through His will. When we choose to sin, we allow ourselves to be controlled by sin and we fall to subject to its power over us. We are to strive to make sin absent from our thoughts and from our actions; to not even view sin as an option.
2.) Allowing Christ to control your body. (v. 13) We are to present every inch of our bodies to God for the purpose of righteousness. Our physical body should be the tool that we allow sin to have control of our bodies, we render ourselves useless to the kingdom of God.
When we "die to sin," we are released from its consequences. Only then can we begin to be fully alive to God. Being alive means being Obedient, it means being responsive...it means actively using (giving your life for the purpose of God's glory. When we live a life of obedience, we glorify the death and resurrection of Christ that freed us from the control and penalty of sin.
We are commanded by God to be dead to sin, but alive to God. This can only "truly" be done by remaining steadfast (firmly rooted) in a daily relationship with Jesus Christ, and by the direction of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Christ alone, there is power to completely die to sin and live to God.Next Devotion>>
