FRIDA
(Julie
Taymor, 2002, USA) |
 |
Why
does Salma Hayek admire Frida Kahlo so much?
Is it because of her twisted relationship
with Diego Rivera or because the problems
she had with her back? Because according to
the film it seems that those two points were
the most important things in Frida's life.
Or maybe Hayek admires Frida's paintings and
political opinions. But, sadly, the movie
doesn't reflect that. It says too little from
these subjects and I wonder why because they
are some interesting themes. |

FULL
FRONTAL
(Steven Soderbergh, 2002, USA)
Yes… er… what's the whole point
of the movie? I think I missed that part. |

GANGS
OF NEW YORK
(Martin Scorsese, 2002, USA) |
 |
The
main and biggest problem of this film is that
the story is not interesting enough.; it's
just a revenge plot and we've seen lots that
deal with the same. So the story is too little
for the immense dimension and production that
Gangs has. So that is why the scenes
are longer than they should be and that makes
the film too extended, boring and dull. |

HOLLYWOOD
ENDING
(Woody Allen, 2002, USA)
It's not as bad as his previous
projects. This one, actually, is pretty decent. |

     |
THE
HOURS
(Stephen Daldry, 2002, USA) |
 |
A
movie where I can't find any flaw (excellent
cast, screenplay, direction), but, still,
I can't find it perfect either. |

Flawed but original. Fresnadillo
may have an interesting future. |

ITALIAN
FOR BEGINNERS
(Lone Scherfig, 2000, Denmark) |
 |
Yes, this is a comedy but you'll find that
out an hour later after all the deaths and
sad situations happen. |

KISSING
JESSICA STEIN
(Charles Henman-Wurmfeld, 2002, USA) |
 |
Romantic movies are not what they used to
be. They are not so good enough or original
and they are not funny or entertaining. And
the same happens with gay romantic movies:
they are stereotyped and they are not very
solid. So that is why Jessica Stein
is a magnificent exception and a satisfying
surprise. |

THE
LAST KISS
(Gabriele Muccino, 2001, Italy) |
 |
The Last Kiss may be one of the most
pessimistic romantic movies I have ever seen
because its final message would be something
like: it is normal and reasonable to cheat
on your spouse, he/she'll forgive you if you
scream a lot. |

LORD
OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS
(Peter Jackson, 2002, USA, New Zealand) |
 |
Not as great as the first one, The Two
Towers is like one of those episodes from
your favorite TV series: it is not the greatest
chapter but you still like it because you
love it as a whole. |
