THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS (Rose Troche, 2001, USA)

SCARY MOVIE 3 (David Zucker, 2003, USA)
Avoid it. You can watch the funnier jokes on the trailer and they’re not that funny either. Watch a sitcom on TV instead, and save some money for yourself.

SCHOOL OF ROCK (Richard Linklater, 2003, USA)
It could have easily been your typical (and stupid) movie of the week about the teacher who reaches and touches the students. But Richard Linklater’s clever direction, Mike White’s ironic screenplay and Jack Black’s histrionic performance make the film a really funny movie.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS (Neil LaBute, 2003, USA)
The film absolutely relies on its ending and this is not a good thing since the promotion of the movie reveals that surprising finale. An interesting movie but with a bad adaptation from theatre to movie.

SHATTERED GLASS (Billy Ray, 2003, USA)

SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (Nancy Meyers, 2003, USA)

THE STATION AGENT (Thomas McCarthy, 2003, USA)

SWEET SIXTEEN (Ken Loach, 2002, UK)

SWIMMING POOL (Francois Ozon, 2003, France)

THIRTEEN (Catherine Hardwicke, 2003, USA)
Everything that scares a parent is in Thirteen: alcohol, drugs, piercings, petty thefts, sex, disrespect, disobedience, etc. And every possible reason for that behavior is present in here too: broken homes, bad role models, permissive parents, shallow society, etc. And maybe that's the main problem with the movie: it tries to give lots of answers and it ends up giving none. Still, it's a pleasure to watch Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter.

THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE (Sylvain Chomet, 2003, France)
An animated movie that can't find its audience. Some moments are too naïve for adults, and some others are too sad and melancholic for children. Triplets of Belleville is a different experience and alternative from those average animated movies.

VERONICA GUERIN (Joel Schumacher, 2003, USA, Ireland, UK)
Can an actress save a movie? No, but watching Cate Blanchett is always a pleasure. She deserves much better films because she makes them better.

WHALE RIDER (Niki Caro, 2002, New Zealand)

X2: X-MEN UNITED (Bryan Singer, 2003, USA)
The best adventure movie of the year. Lots of interesting characters and original action sequences; X-Men 2 has no boring moments thanks to its clever directing and immediate editing.
