about the links

What follows is a list of web-sites that I've come to use and appreciate. They include sites featuring freeware, shareware, music, various resources and tutorials, and useful links. They are listed in no particular order other than alphabetically, since many sites contain more than one of the features I've mentioned.

The Apache Software Foundation - www.apache.org
For a variety of open-source programs and utilities, including Apache's HTTP Server.

Buzzmachines - www.buzzmachines.com
For the Buzz packs, updated and new machines, and a few other music-creation tools. The BuzzMachines Massive Pack is 39 MBs, and the Stealth Pack is 18 MBs, so be prepared for some lengthy downloads.

Counter-Strike - www.counter-strike.net
Download the latest version of my favorite multi-player game. You'll be glad you did.

Fedora Project - fedoraproject.org
Home of the Fedora Core 2 project, a version of Red Hat Linux with free support and updates. I'm new to Linux, so all I can really say is...it's pretty.

The Free Country - www.thefreecountry.com
A site containing hundreds of links to various programming, web-design, and web-security sites, articles, and resources.

GNU Operating System - Free Software Foundation - www.gnu.org
Go here to learn about and contribute to the Free Software Foundation.

Google - www.google.com
No more needs to be said.

GoldWave - www.goldwave.com
GoldWave is a Windows-based sample editor with a wide range functions and effects. It's available as shareware, with a registration fee of $40 US, $55 Can, or £25 UK. The nice thing is that it's fully functional before registration; you just have a limit on the number of operations you can perform per session.

Gothador - Devilishly Good Fun! Play online now for free! - www.gothador.com
A nice, simple web-based RPG that's highly addictive.

Greevir's Homepage - www.angelfire.com/clone/greevir
My friend Greevir's homepage, featuring fan art based on Final Fantasy VII and FFVII characters appearing in Kingdom Hearts, RPG-Maker material, links to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and some other stuff.

Hamster Republic - hamsterrepublic.com
It's difficult to explain. Go and see for yourself.

HTML Goodies - www.htmlgoodies.com
For tutorials on HTML, HTML 4.0, Javascript, and more.

Impulse Tracker - www.lim.com.au/ImpulseTracker
This is the official Impulse Tracker site. It has the last patches as well as the demo songs that were archived with some of the later releases. This is also where you make your contributions to the efforts of Jeffrey Lim, the creator of Impulse Tracker.

MadTracker - www.madtracker.org
For MadTracker 2.x, a tracker with real-time effects like delay, reverb, flange, chorus, analogue filtering, and more.

MediaFire - www.mediafire.com
No-strings free file hosting. Share everything or nothing, or any amount in between. File size limit is 100MB per file, but there's no limit on your total space. Very cool.

The Mod Archive - modarchive.org
For a huge collection of samples, mods, trackers, and players. Has links to WinAmp, ModPlug Central, Impulse Tracker, FastTracker, and more.

ModPlug Central - www.modplug.com
For ModPlug Tracker, ModPlug Player, and a few other tracking items.

MySQL - www.mysql.com
For the MySQL Open Source database.

Open Cubic Player - www.cubic.org/player
Homepage for a DOS-based open-source mod player. The user interface is a little tricky for those of us who get too comfortable with Windows.

Open Source Initiative - www.opensource.org
A non-profit organization devoted to the promotion and protection of open-source software.

Parthias' Homepage - www.oocities.org/parthias
My little brother's homepage. He also has one with Tripod, which you can find here.

PHP Home - www.php.net
For the latest release of PHP and the php manuals. More tools for web-design and management.

Planeshift - www.planeshift.it
A relatively new 3D online RPG that's free for download AND free to play. The only bad things about it are the size of the downloads (around 100MB) and the inevitable bug problems that come with free application projects like this. From what I've seen, it's worth the bother.

Red Hat - www.redhat.com
Home of the Red Hat distribution of Linux. I don't have much more to tell you than that.

Trax in Space - www.traxinspace.com
Version 2 of one of the foundational tracker websites. I missed out on the first one, but the sequel is off to a running start. Here you can listen to the music of up-and-coming artists, read reviews, and share your own creations.

Un4seen Developments - www.un4seen.com
Makers of XMPlay, the media player which provides the best Impulse Tracker mod playback I've heard from any Windows application. It's free for download, so go check it out.

United Trackers - www.united-trackers.org
Home to the United Trackers organization, of which I am a fledgling member. They have plenty of tracking resources and articles.

United Trackers Sounding Board - possibly gone or moved
An affiliate of United Trackers that acts as an archive of links to trackers' mods located on other sites. They also have forums and articles concerning tracking.

Unreal Tournament - www.unrealtournament.com
Home of one of my favorite PC games of all time. You can download updates, bonus packs, demos, and some other useful things.

Virtual Noise - www.noise.org
For Impulse Tracker and it's latest patches, and for registering Impulse Tracker. Unfortunately, they're currently rebuilding the site. Go there to find out if they're back or not.
