Weimar: The Bauhaus was founded in 1919, In Weimar, Germany. The new arts and crafts school was set to have a great influence on design, architecture, graphic and industrial arts and theatre design. Walter Gropius was the leader of the school in Weimar but soon decided to move the school to Dessau as there would be more space and opportunites to build.

Dessau: In 1925, the Bauhaus took up root in Dessau, Germany. Gropius and his fellow staff members and theire apprentices all worked together to design and build the new school. During the Dessau period, the Bauhaus moved from being practical with designs to much more ornamental.

Berlin: The Bauhaus in Dessau was closed in 1932. After the closure, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe moved the Bauhaus yet again.This time the school was moved to Berlin, Germany where it was to remain for only three years.

Chicago: In 1937, the Bauhaus was re-founded in Chicago, America under the new direction of Laszolo Maholy-Nagy. The new Bauhaus school now aimed to bring artists and industrailists together and dedicated itself to training artists and designers in the cause of industrialisation.
