A Message from Your Hosts, George and Betty Cook
Edwin Randolph Oakes, the first owner of the house, died in 1889. From E.R. Oakes the house was passed down through the family from generation to generation for 150 years. We are the only non-family residents of the house, which we purchased in 2000. The house has always been painted yellow and remains so to this day. There are eight fireplaces in the house. The kitchen has a fireplace and walk-in pantry. It also has two bake ovens yet to be explored. Our front porch provides a panoramic view of the Digby Scallop Fleet, sailboats, and early morning sunrises. We hope that you will enjoy your stay at The Breakers. Relax and reflect on a time and place so very long ago. We trust that you will develop fond memories of your time at The Breakers in Nova Scotia. We see this beautiful and historic house as a treasured gift we would like to share with you.... our guests.
Breakfast at the Breakers
Breakfast is served in the E.R. Oakes breakfast room. Step back in time amid Early Canadian pine furniture. The room is flanked by large windows and a central fireplace. Our healthy and hearty breakfast menu includes fresh juices, seasonal fresh fruit, hot and cold main entrees, pastries, fruit bread, and our signature house blend coffee and herbal teas. Vegetarian and special diets can be accomodated with advance notice. Excellent food and friendly conversation provides an excellent start to the day.
The Breakers has developed its own specialties such as our hot cereal, world renowned Breaker's Gourmet Granola, and our home-made Nova Scotia molasses brown bread. Each breakfast starts with fresh fruit dishes, and coffee, tea or juice. As well as our Nova Scotia pastries, we are including traditional Italian baking that goes well with morning coffee. Our hot entrees, which rotate daily, include waffles, crepes, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and eggs benedict, all served with choice of meat and molasses brown bread toast. For the guests, breakfast becomes a remembered experience at The Breakers.
