The only photo of John in the CMGC archivesJohn blistered the 2004 Summer Heat with a net 65 on a day predicted to be on the cool side. Given the choice we would have dialed up the heat a little hotter, but there were still more than a few sweaty shirts in the field. John's 76 set a new club record for low gross score in a tournament. Bob finished second with a net 68 and it was his record John beat. Bob held the previous record of 79 since the 2000 Summer Heat at the Phoenix. John also broke a five year winless streak. His last win was last millenium at the 1999 Challenge (sorry dude, the internet was a new fontier back then and tournament reports weren't as glamorous back then). A 76 opens the door to the possibility of a sub-par winning score someday. That's huge. Congratulations John.

There was one squeaking wheel that didn't get the grease. Tom's pull cart produced an agonizing yet strangely rhythmic squeak for all 18 holes. His playing partners considered greasing it with a pork sammich at the turn, but by then the sound had become part of the landscape. John's win marks the third consecutive win by a low handicapper. In an expected bit of irony, there were again no snappy quips from the handicap bias crowd. The Club Championship is next on the tournament calendar. The dates are October 2nd and 3rd.
