Ido Native Name: Ido Creator: Dr. Louis de Beaufront, et al. Creation Date(s): 1907-1922 Comments: Ido is a attempt to reform Esperanto. Phonology and Spelling Conventions: Ido uses the unmodified latin alphabet. Each letter in the alphabet corresponds to exactly one sound. Morphology and Conjugation: Verbs are modified to show tense or mood, but not to reflect the subject. Nouns may be either singular or plural. Compounding, prefixes, and suffixes are used quite liberally to form new words. Syntax: SVO Comments: The main reforms in Ido are in orthography - no diacritics are used, and in the marking of the accusative, which is used only if necessary. There are also differences in vocabulary and affixes. For those already familiar with Esperanto, Italian, Latin or any of the other Romance languages, Ido is very easy to learn. Sample: Omna homi naskas libera ed egala relate digneso e yuri. Li es dotita per raciono e koncienco e devas agar vers l'una l'altra en spirito di frateso. Translation: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
