The crib

Little Folks cribHere's a look at a picture of the crib that we bought. It's an heirloom crib from Little Folks, and is made in Elmira, Ontario. The crib is made our of maple, and has a natural stain on it. We actually got it second-hand from a technical writer that I know. But, it looks like it's never been used! It's perfect...exactly what I wanted if I'd bought something new.

Crib sheet material, in flannelMom M. found some great fabric for the fitted crib sheet, and we both found some matching fabric to make sheets and a ruffle (which I wanted purely for looks...no practical use whatsoever). The sheet fabric is yellow with blue stars, is flannel, and looks like it's from the same fabric family. Ina B. got me a nice yellow blanket that matches the colors as well.

As for the crib set, no, we're not having bumper pads! Two reasons:

  • when the baby is small, they are a SIDS risk because they change the airflow around the baby
  • when the baby is bigger, he or she can use them as a launching pad to climb out of the crib and onto his or her soft, little head

Yes, I know that some kids hit their heads along the side of the crib. My theory is that they'll only do this a couple of times before they realize, "Ouch! Maybe I shouldn't do this anymore." And, if they don't learn, then we know they've inherited more of their Dad's stubborn genes that their Mom's.
