About us

The House of Poor is a christian non-governmental organization, a non-profit organization. We are a group of volunteers who can no longer see human being in abject poverty especially the children and we have decided to join our strength for the well-being of the poor.We have some effective programs to root out poverty. The House Of Poor provides a lot more than nutritious food, clean water, medical care, and education.
You see, The House Of Poor has an impact on entire communities by involving parents in key decision-making roles.
How does we work? Our staff meets key people in the community to determine together the needs of their children in their communities. Then they work with our staff to meet these needs. The important point is that parents actively participate in their children's' development and manage their own programs which encourages democratic self-governance in the community.

Five ways The House Of Poor helps the poor and their children in need.

  1. Early Childhood Development
The House Of Poor provides milk, books, educational toys, sleeping mats, sanitation facilities, and other support items to childrentheir for preschool. Parents are actively involved.

  2. Education
Education and literacy create opportunities for children and give them a chance to escape poverty, but in many developing countries, children often don't have the opportunity or money to attend school. Even when they are able to go, many don't have access to basic educational tools, such as books, paper and pens. The House Of Poor innovative programs, depending on the individual's needs, provides tuition, uniforms, shoes, textbooks, supplies, bags, and bus fare to help children from destitute families stay in school.

  3. Nutrition and Food Security
An estimated 150 million children worldwide are malnourished - a major cause of childhood illness and mortality. The House Of Poor nutrition and food security programs aim to ensure the physical, emotional and social development of children from birth. This is achieved through the provision of food clothes, shelters for malnourished children and the poor, promoting the best feeding practices, such as helping parents learn how to prepare nutritious meals for their children - meals that provide protein and nutrients critical for physical and mental development, addressing food security needs on a community level, and empowering communities to increase their level of food security through better farming techniques and tools, improved seeds and irrigation methods and safe food storage.

  4. Health and Sanitation
Deadly diseases, many preventable by simple childhood immunisations, continue to cause millions of unnecessary deaths each year. The House Of Poor supports community-based health interventions through immunizations and malaria and tuberculosis prevention programs. In Togo, malaria, malnutrition, diarrhoea, respiratory infections and measles are the most common diseases to affect children under five years. Children and pregnant women are at most risk from malaria, so to help reduce further infections, The House Of Poor is providing insecticide mosquito nets, antimalarial drugs and health education on prevention. We also assists communities, children receive basic health services, dental care.
The House Of Poor works hard to improve access to clean water and sanitation by building village-hydraulics, building community helath centers, improving latrines, building water containers, and arranging electric pumps for communities in hilly and remote areas.

  5. Family Income Generation
The House Of Poor helps families find new ways to generate income that can be used to provide for the needs of children. We support any income-generating activities that help children and parents develop a livelihood and become self-sufficient.
-We use micro-enterprise development initiatives to provide skills-training and jobs so that families can sustain themselves.
-We properly train poor people in entrepreneurship and we fund their start-up businesses to allow them to be on their own
-We financially and materially assist the village-cooperatives in order to modernize their equipment, to increase their productivity and to allow their memebers to be on their own.
-We pay the apprenticeship fees of poor and provide them a complete work tool at the end of their apprenticeship.

As you know, there are many needs in a developing country like Togo. The number of poor people is scary.Every single day, we are overwhelmed with the requests of an increasing number of poor people. With heavy-hearted, we are under an obligation to put those urgent requests on file expecting the donation of a sponsor.

To meet the requests of the rising tide of poor people, we are looking for kind-hearted people like you to financially and/or materially back us.The House of Poor believes you can help and are sensitive to those poor people that hold out their hands to you. Please, do not let their hands go back empty. The House of Poor truly believes that it is our obligations as a human to do whatever we can to assist those in need wherever and however we can in order to promote physical, mental, and spiritual success. We are asking that you join in and help us make sure that no poor person or child fall through the crack, this upcoming year because of the lack of basic needs they need to get on the right track.

God bless you!
