Call for Papers |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The aim of this conference is to elicit a variety of new approaches and responses to the literature and culture of the 1930s. We hope that the breadth of the response to the Call for Papers will exceed the imaginations of the conference organisers, and our list of possible topics is neither definitive nor prescriptive. Our understanding of culture would include Deaf culture and issues of disability as well as, say, women's writing, the work of African-American writers and artists, the Popular Front culture of the south Wales mining valleys, Leon Trotsky and the visual arts, or traditional approaches to canonical literary texts in English, Welsh or other languages. Papers should be submitted in English, but their subject matter need not be confined to the English-language world. This Conference is hosted by the Dylan Thomas Centre as part of the Dylan Thomas 50 festival, and participants in the conference are warmly encouraged to consider an aspect of Dylan Thomas's work in their papers. Whatever their subject, all papers will be considered on their own merits in relation to the general theme. The conference will pay homage to Thomas in its varied, lively and informed exploration of the decade to which he gave such a distinctive and enduring contribution.Papers are invited on any field relating to the general theme of the conference. Topics might include but are not limited to:
A selection of papers will be published. 200 word proposals for 20 minute papers should be submitted by 1 June 2003, or make informal enquiries, to:
