Andy Croft Andy Croft is a poet and community-writing activist in Middlesborough, who has published five volumes of poetry. He has written and broadcast widely on the literary history of the Labour Movement, including Red Letter Days (1990), Out of the Old Earth (1994), A Weapon in the Struggle: the Cultural History of the Communist Party in Britain (1998) and Red Sky at Night, an anthology of twentieth-century British Socialist poetry edited with Adrian Mitchell. His biography of Randall Swingler is due for publication in 2003.
 

 

Janet Montefiore Janet Montefiore is Senior Lecturer in English and American Literature at the University of Kent. Her poems have appeared in PN Review and Stand. Her publications include Feminism and Poetry (1987), and Men and Women Writers of the 1930s: The Dangerous Flood of History (1996), and Arguments of Heart and mind: Selected Essays 1977-2000 (2002). She is a frequent contributor to the TLS, PN Review, and Women: a Cultural Review. She is currently working on Kipling.
 

 

 

Alan M. Wald

Alan M. Wald is Director of the Program in American Culture and Professor of English at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His books include The Revolutionary Imagination (1983), The New York Intellectuals: the Rise and Decline of the Anti-Stalinist Left from the 1930s to the 1980s (1987), Writing from the Left (1994), and Exiles from a Future Time: The Forging of the Mid-Twentieth-Century Literary Left (2002). He is a member of the editorial board of Against the Current.
