Day 4 - The Frame Raising

Wednesday, October 18

Wondering what happened to Tuesday?

Well, Tuesday was pretty much a bust due to rain. The crane started sliding down the front yard, the panels arrived, the timberframers called it an early day (have you ever tried to shimmy up slippery timbers?), and the tractor trailer that brought the panels got stuck (sunk into topsoil next to the driveway).

Denny Bish, our excavator, came to our rescue twice - to save the crane and remove the tractor trailer.

We suppose the day could have been worse (see the Panel pictures for more details).

Timberframing resumed on Wednesday. The major event was the raising of the king post trusses in the middle bay.

You can see the crane lifting the Loft truss into place.

At the back of the picture, you can see the Loft truss being set.
Here is a look at the Loft truss from the back side of the house.
They then moved on to raising the truss in the Great Room "bump out".
Next, the second great room truss was set into place and the purlins installed to connect them.
The three glorious trusses. In the timberframing world, this type of truss is called a "King Post with Struts".
