Fashion is cyclic and corsets
are not likely to ever
vanish. And after a brief absence it has reappeared in our day. It's
most recent appearance was during
the New Look era (late 40's and 50's) when heavy girdles, waspies and
classic laced corsets
were worn by fashionable women. Structured girdles
and corseletes were
common and thus the modern corset less period is limited to only a few
decades.
Although the corseting of the 50's focussed primarily on the cinching of the waist, it was clear that a good bustline required conventional corseting from bust to hip as shown by the classic movie stars. |
