History |
Corsets
and Tightlacing made a comeback in the late1980's.
Elegance and
self
confidence replace old stigma's of suppression
and martyrdom. Corsets not only make you feel and look good, they
improve posture while providing wonderful support. They are now
worn both as under as well as outerwear. With this return we also see a renewed investigation into the long term health aspects. Today this is much more objective than in the past and is based on actual research. The modern study draws parallels with maternity, which has similar displacing and compressive effects as corseting and is equally well tolerated by the body. Tightlacing is corseting with the intent to have a more dramatic and longer lasting effect. The modern goal is to enhance and improve the body shape in a pleasant and responsible manner. With these pages I aim to provide some background and comparisons of the past and present. For those who remain skeptical and fearful, the number of people that have rediscovered the garment in a positive way, continues to grow rapidly, especially since the 1990's. There are no cracked ribs, fainting or debility, instead today the corsets are worn in comfort and with confidence. Those who have had the opportunity to try on a properly fitted corset are very often "hooked" and only wished they had started sooner! |

Guidelines for a positive corseting
experience: What to do
and what to avoid |
The generation of the 90's spurred on by Madonna, Kate Winslet in Titanic and many others realized the tremendous appeal of this classic garment. The old notions have been replaced with assertiveness, rather than submission. Classic stars such as Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Lee Remick, Jayne Mansfield and many others, regularly wore corsets both on the set as well as in their private lives, with Gina Lollobrigida being rarely ever seen without a corset. Modern stars such as Helena Bonham Carter, Salma Hayek, Kate Winslet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and many others.
