Health Matters:
Becoming an Informed Patient*
How to decipher
between facts and fiction:
When looking at any
health-related information on the Internet, here are a few things you should
consider:
- Is the author of
the article cited?
- What are his/her
credentials?
- Are there
well-documented references to medical journals/studies?
- Is there a date
associated with the article?
- Are there links to
other relevant/reliable web pages?
- Is there a way of
contacting the author (ie. email, phone #, mailing address, clinic)?
- Does the page post
a disclaimer stating to consult your physician before attempting any new
treatments?

- Windows Defragmentation Instructions:
1. Before you start the defragmentation process, you must close all
programs. This includes those running in the background.
2. To do this, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
3. From the window that appears, select one of the programs/windows
open.
4. Now click on End Task.
5. Repeat Steps 2-4 until only Explorer is still listed.
6. Once all but Explorer is closed, click on the Start Button.
7. Go to Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
8. Select the drive you'd like to defragment and click on OK.
9. Let the computer do it's work and do not attempt to do
anything else on the PC during defragmentation. It will only slow down
the process.
Reminders:
- Back up all critical files
before attempting the defragmentation process.
- To speed up the process, try to
defragment the hard drive(s) at least once a month. This will
cause less clutter, thus allowing the defragmenter to do it's job more
efficiently.
- If the above instructions do not
work on your PC, consult your operating system's Help files. (Start
> Help > Index > Defragmenter)
