Exercise: Activity, Place and Intensity

The Activity
What do you like to do. What fits best into your daily routine. Which activities are accessible and convenient? What kind of activity will help your attain your physical goals? What have you always wanted to be good at? Select one or a combination of activities that you will enjoy and be proud of. If money is an object, consider walking and running or investing in a workout video. If convenience and time is the main issue, sign up for an exercise class or a personal trainer. If exercising from the office and time is an issue, than walk for 40min everyday and eat lunch at your desk. Select an activity by thinking about how it can become part of your daily routine. Find a good time and place to exercise, that is free of conflict, obstacles and negative distractions. The home, is a great place to work out. Invest in a good exercise mat, hand weights or a video. Find a sufficient space that is free of physical obstacles, open the windows and turn of the TV. Workout when everyone else is away or busy doing other things. If you prefer a gym, find a facility that is pleasant and not intimidating. Find an instructor that you can talk to and identify with. If your run, walk or hike, find a route that is safe and interesting. If you are learning a new sport, find a good instructor and a convenient location.
The Intensity
If you can't do it all, then at least do a little. If you are in pain, then take a break. You should push yourself, but don't overdue it. You are trying to develop strength and condition your body to love exercise. It may take some time and you don't want to burn out. Be realistic but also be honest with yourself. You know when you are over doing or under doing it.
