The 5 September 1997 online edition of Barcelona's "La Vanguardia" reports that Stampida at Port Aventura, Vila-seca y Salou, Spain will not reopen until March of 1998. Safety bars on Stampida will be modified in the interim with the purpose of guaranteeing that there is no possibility of another fatal accident like the one in July in which Antonio David Vila Campos was ejected from the train. Yesterday, Port Aventura management made known the findings of the German firm TUV which conducted safety analysis studies on Stampida during the month of August. TUV indicated that Stampida had proper safety restraints, but recommended modifying the position of the safety bars so that the end of the bar comes closer to the seat.

Port Aventura management has decided to adopt this additional safety measure. For this reason, Stampida will remain closed while the modifications are made and will not reopen until next year. That way, "Port Aventura remains true to the philosophy on safety it has held since the park opened," management explained yesterday.

It's the wildest, most exciting way through Apache Territory.

Tomahawk and Stampida are intertwined and Tomahawk has also been closed ever since the accident on Stampida. It will probably also remain closed until March 1998 although there has been one report that it may re-open before then
