The main entrance to St. Giles Kirk.
Maybe it's just me; but, I've always had to work at trying to see the inside of St. Giles Kirk. The first time I went to Scotland, it took me three trips to the church before I found it open to visitors. This time, it took two trips. However, the interior is worth the effort. The church is a dark, foreboding place which perfectly matches the Scottish temperament. On the south side of the building is a copy of the National Covenant, which was the document that created the Presbyterian Church. You can still see some of the signatures which were written in blood. All in all, I'd have to say that St. Giles is one of the more evocative places in Edinburgh. A donation of £1 is suggested to enter the church. However, if you want to enter the Thistle Chapel, where the symbols of the Knights of the Thistle Order reside, it costs an additional £2.
