Baba (grandmother) always helped poor friends and relatives. When Uncle Joe had a store on Queen Mary Road in Montreal, Baba loved going there to get items for herself and also to help out poor people.
She would call Uncle Joe on the phone and say, "Yossele, shick mir de car" (Yossele, send me the car). Once, Uncle Joe sent the car and she called him back and said, "Nisht de car, der ondere" (Not this car, the other one). So Uncle Joe spoke to the driver who drove back to change cars.
When Baba got to the store, she would tell Uncle Joe to have the salesclerks turn their backs when she passed so they wouldn't see what she put into her shopping bags. Again, this shows the love and respect Uncle Joe had for his mother.
Auntie Celia A"H, was also a willing participant. She was, therefore, zocheh (privileged) to have her children give her the same kavod (respect).
