Makaha Caverns

On the Waianae side of the island, just north of Makaha surf beach is a protected cove with spectacular underwater lava formations.  Known to most of the dive boats as the Makaha Caverns, this is a really fun dive in shallow water (15'-45').

trumpet fishA rocky point marks the north western edge of this dive, but the entire area has cool vertical walls, lava tubes, overhangs and habitat for all manner of marine life.  Southeast of the point in about 30 feet of water there are several moorings lying approximately 10 feet below the surface.  If you opt to use your anchor, please try to set it in a sandy patch of the bottom (the coral will thank you and it is much easier to retrieve it when it is time to leave).
