Tijuana siempre ha sido famosa por sus bares o cantinas, y México también por su licor. El dios indígena Quetzalcoatl tuvo que abandonar su reino tolteca en Tolán después de tomar demasiado pulque, porque entonces perdió su juicio y tuvo relaciones sexuales con su hermana.
Los españoles y europeos trajeron las recetas para hacer vino y cerveza. Entonces empezaron a destilar también el tequila mexicano. Los mayas y aztecas celebraban sus fiestas tomando pero aún no sabemos si construyeron cantinas en sí – quizá esta sabrosa tradición borracha es más bien un producto de la castellanización.

Tijuana has always been famous for its bars or cantinas, and Mexico also for its liquor. The indigenous god Quetzalcoatl had to abandon his Toltec kingdom after drinking too much pulque, because then he lost his wits and had sexual relations with his sister.
The Spaniards and Europeans brought with them the recipes for making wine and beer. And then they began to also distill the Mexican tequila. The Maya and Aztecs celebrated their fiestas drinking but we still don't know if they built what we would call cantinas – perhaps this delicious drunken tradition is a product of hispanicization.
