A Game Routine!

Suitable For Any Anime RPG!

Submitted as part of my first contest!

Note: What I have been, up til now, calling a "Routine" is actually a short adventure or a complete game scenario (or, in TFOS terms, an Episode). A Routine is more of a running gag or a joke that reappears occasionally. My first "Routine", Mo Dean, actually can be used as a running gag, but if the players board his ship it becomes a complete adventure rather than just a running gag.
What we have here, sent in by Prof. Bobo, actually is a routine. Hope you like it!

THE ABSENTEE PARENT ROUTINE
(suitable for TFOS or any highschool comedy campaign)

The character has parents, or at least one parent (probably a widower father, if you want to use a pretty standard anime convention), but they're
not like other parents. The other kids go home and expect their parents to
be there. You're surprised when your parents are home. More likely, they're off following the Grateful Dead, on business, kicking around on
the beaches of Rigel VII, or on a secret mission for the government.
The only time the character's parents are *ever* home, in fact, is when it's really inconvenient. Then they usually have a list of chores for
the character and disappear on another trip as soon as his/her back is
turned (and once they've sufficiently ruined any romantic moment that the
character thought they'd have by taking advantage of his or her parent's
absence--nothing ruins loving like being told to make sure you wash your
underwear!). Teenagers trying to take advantage of their parents'
absentee status should be penalized as even the simplest things get out of hand rapidly. Any attempt to defy parental authority should rapidly turn
into a chaotic mess. Whether or not the mess is resolved is up to the tender mercies of the GM and the player's quick wits (or lack thereof).
Teenagers with absentee parents will use their Relationship With
Parents score differently than other kids. Instead of being able to wheedle
your dad into letting you have the car, you'll be checking to see if he
bothered to leave you the keys, or if he took the car with him. Teenagers with really low RWP scores might go home from school to find a locksmith's
van leaving from their house and their parents nowhere to be found (inside,
of course, there's a note explaining that they absolutely *had* to go on a
cruise, and accidentally snapped their key off in the lock on their way
out).

VARIATIONS ON A THEME:

The Freeloading Parent: Since dad's not home much, the character has to stock the fridge on his own. Only a cruel GM would demand the character feed himself on his pitiful allowance, but just figure there's never much more than enough food in the fridge for the next meal--entertaining is right out. To make matters worse, when dad *does* stop by home, his first
stop is usually the kitchen--where he'll eat the ramen noodles and roast pork buns the character has been saving for dinner! (And you as GM get the added pleasure of making the character's stomach rumble at inopportune moments.)

The Mystery Parent: The character *has* parents, but she's never seen
them in person. Maybe she's never even seen pictures! When she comes home from school or when she wakes up, though, sometimes there'll be a note on the kitchen table explaining that her parents had to go on another trip and what chores need doing while they're gone. And the roast pork buns are missing.
