Since you've had your fun, you can proceed to the Viridian Forest. Can you
see the man that had earlier blocked your path? There's an odd bush not far
from him. Press A while touching it, and VOILA! A Potion!
Also, before you head on to the gloomy Viridian Forest, by using the PC, you
can swap the Pokémon you currently have with ones contained in the PC. (Or
ones you caught) This is useful. Say you finally caught a Spearow, and you
want to deposit your Pidgey. It's very easy to do so! You can do the same
thing with Items. Remember to change boxes often, as each can only hold 20
Pokémon apiece.
Though there's a bush in front of the forest, just skip it for now. There's
nothing exciting here. After you go through it, you'll arrive in the Forest.
This is your first "dungeon". Although it's very minor, it'll help you get
ready for the soon-coming Mt. Moon. All the trainers here are easy. They
train bugs, which are (duh) weak. Although Weedle, the Poison/Bug combo is
common, you'll have to search the forest carefully for Caterpie (Bug) in Red,
while they are abundant in Yellow/Blue. It's difficult to find a Weedle in
Blue, while you'll have to trade for one in Yellow! In Red/Blue, be sure to
catch a Pikachu (Electric) if you are lucky enough to find one. Their
electric abilities are strong, and Thunder Wave will make Pokémon catching
easier by Paralyzing them. In Yellow, try to find a Pidgeotto
(Normal/Flying). They are quite powerful. Weedle's evolved form, Kakuna,
and Metapod, Caterpie's evolution, are usually helpless to attack. However,
bend the rules by not catching one in the wild, but evolving one right from a
Caterpie or Weedle. (Level 7) Although they will have their former attacks,
AT LEAST THEY FIGHT! Only three painful levels and they will evolve into a
Butterfree, a Flying/Bug type (Metapod) or Beedrill (Kakuna.) You should
really get a Butterfree. Their powers are strong. Level it up until it
learns Confusion (level 10 in Yellow, level 12 in Red/Blue.). You'll need
it!

Catch of the Day: Caterpie, Weedle*, Pikachu*, Pidgeotto*, Metapod, &
Kakuna*. (* Weedle, Pikachu & Kakuna can only be caught in Red/Blue, &
Pidgeotto in Yellow.)

You're done with this forest now. Head into the next city, Pewter!
Pewter City isn't that exciting, but there's a museum. It only cost $50 to
get in (the cheapest thing in the game!) & you can see some cool fossils.
Your first Pokémon gym, however, is still waiting. There's a "GYM" in almost
every town. This Gym specializes in Rock and Ground types. Ground is weak
to Water, Ice, & Grass elements, while Rock is similar, but has a Fighting &
Ground type weakness and a NORMAL TYPE RESISTANCE! I have team suggestions:

Pikachu: Pikachu, Butterfree, Mankey, Dratini (trade), Alakazam (trade), and
Spearow.
Squirtle: Squirtle, Spearow, Dratini (trade), Butterfree, Pikachu, and
Alakazam (trade).
Bulbasaur: Bulbasaur, Spearow, Dratini (trade), Butterfree, Pikachu, and
Alakazam (trade).
Charmander: Charmander, Spearow, Dratini (trade), Butterfree, Pikachu, and
Alakazam (trade).

*If you can't get a Psychic Alakazam or a Dragon Dratini, use a male Nidoran
or Beedrill instead.
*Note: These traded Pokémon's levels (Alakazam & Dratini) should be at 15
(Dratini) and 16. (Alakazam)
*Alakazam is evolved from an Abra at level 16, which will evolve into a
Kadabra. Trade this Kadabra to the different file and it will evolve into
Alakazam! Dratini is a rarer Safari Zone Pokémon that can be caught using
the Super Rod and some patience.

Now since you've pumped up your team by trades, enter the gym and challenge a
boy. He's a junior trainer. All Gyms have them, but he's the only one here
thankfully. He'll fight with some weak Ground types, and Water, Ice, & Grass
will execute a cool victory. Head back and heal up, then challenge the Gym
Leader, Brock! He has a Geodude & Onix, which are Ground & Rock types.
Whatever you do, DON'T USE ROCK, POISON, FLYING, ELECTRIC, FIRE, & NORMAL
ATTACKS! YOU'LL BE CREAMED! Instead, use elemental attacks.
