Epic 40,000 (see Games Workshop's
page
on it) is a miniatures game.
That means that it is played on a table set up with miniature terrain: hills, forests, rivers, etc., and the playing pieces are little models of the troops, vehicles, and other war machines involved in the conflict. It is a combination of a tactical war game, modelling (similar to model the railroading hobby), and playing with toys, which is great fun for me.
It also happens to be a science fiction game. The particular armies in it represent forces of:
and more.
My main army is the Space Marines, an elite branch of the human Imperium. I also have some Knights and Titans (walking machines varying in size from big to gigantic) and Imperial Guard.
I also have a growing force of Eldar. I usually try to con my wife into playing this army. Its strength is in speed and maneuverability.
A fun, if a little silly, army is the Orks.
Beginnings of my Fortress army.
The Titan Project is an attempt to increase interest and detail in Titans in Epic 40,000, while remaining with the E40K and Firepower 1 rules framework.
Here is my project for putting magnets on titans and metal washers on weapons, for customizable titans.
