April 18th, 1861. Lee is offered command of the Federal armies by Lincoln. Lee declines the offer.
April 20th, 1861. Resigned from the U.S. Army.
April 23rd, 1861. Lee takes command of the land and naval forces of Virginia. Assigned the rank of General.
May 1st, 1861. Lee sends Colonel T. J. Jackson and Virginian troops to seize Harper's Ferry.
July 29th, 1861. Sent to take personal command of Confederate forces in West Virginia.
Sept 11th, 1861. Lee mounts a surprise attack on Reynolds at Cheat Mountain.
