Altar Room
Map 5. AKA South end of Temple, Altar. South, naturally enough, of the North End of Temple. A small hole leads Down to the Tiny Cave. Contains a Book and Candles.
Aragain Falls
Map 1. Can be seen from the Canyon View, and are reached by going East (twice) from the End of Rainbow after it has been solidified by waving the Sceptre. The Shore lies to the North.
Art Gallery
Map 3. East of the East of Chasm. North leads to the Studio. Contains a Painting.
Atlantis Room
Map 6. Down from the Other Tiny Cave. South leads to the Reservoir, North Side. Contains a Crystal Trident.
Attic
Map 2. Part of the White House, up the Dark Stairs from the Kitchen. Contains the Knife and the Rope .

Bat Room
Map 7. North from the Squeeky Room, and East to the Shaft Room. Contains a Vampire Bat and a Jade Figurine.
Behind House
Map 1. North leads to the North Side, South leads to the South Side, East leads to the Small Clearing, and West leads into the White House through the Window.

Canyon Bottom
Map 2. Down from the Canyon View via the Rocky Ledge. North leads to the End of Rainbow, from which SW leads back.
Canyon View
Map 1. East from the Small Clearing. NW goes back to the Small Clearing, and West leads to the southern Dimly Lit Forest. Down leads to a Rocky Ledge, and then to the Canyon Bottom. The Aragain Falls can be seen to the East.
Cellar
Map 3. Down from the Living Room via the Trapdoor. North leads to the Troll Room and South leads to the East of Chasm. On the West a Slide comes from the Slide Room.
Chasm
Map 4. This runs SW to the E/W Passage, one way, and NE to the Reservoir, South Side. The N/S Passage enters from the South.
Clearing
Map 1. Reached by going North from the Forest, East Sunlight or the Forest Path. East leads to the eastern part of the Dimly Lit Forest. It is impossible to go north.
The clearing contains a Grating covered by a pile of leaves.
Coal Mine
Map 7. East from the Gas Room. Although the game does not say so this is a maze. Go East, NE, SE, SW, and Down to get to the Ladder Top.
To get back through the Coal Mine to the Gas Room go Up, North, East, South, and North.
Cold Passage
Map 6. North from the Other Mirror Room and West to the Slide Room.
Cyclops Room
Map 3. Found at the end of the Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike. The Treasure Room is Up the Stairs. Contains, naturally enough, the Cyclops who can be frightened into making a passage through the Strange Passage into the Living Room

Dam Base
Map 4. Down from the Top of Dam. There is an Inflatable Boat here.
Dam Lobby
Map 4. North of the Top of Dam. North or East leads to the Maintenance Room.
There are Matches here.
Damp Cave
Map 4. Leads from the Loud Room on the West to the White Cliffs on the East. There is a crack in the South wall too small for an insect to get through.
Dead End
Map 7. South from the Ladder Bottom. Contains Coal which is put in the Machine to make a Diamond.
Deep Canyon
Map 4. NW leads to the Reservoir, South Side, SW leads to the N/S Passage, and East leads to the Top of Dam. Stairs lead Down to the Loud Room
Dimly Lit Forest
Map 1. There is an eastern part and a southern part.
The eastern part is reached by going East from the Clearing or the Forest Path , or North, South, or West from the Forest Thinning, or North from the Small Clearing. One can reach the Forest Thinning by going East or the Small Clearing by going South.
The southern part is reached by going South from the Forest, East Sunlight or the South Side. Once one enters from these places one is instantly transported to the east, and from there can go North to the Small Clearing. One can also enter by going East from the Canyon View and can go West to the Forest, East Sunlight. One cannot go further South because of Storm Tossed Trees, or East because of Rank Undergrowth.
Dome Room
Map 4. East of the Engravings Cave. There is a railing to which the Rope can be tied so that one can go Down to the Torch Room
Drafty Room
Map 7. Below the Shaft Room and connected to it by a shaft down which the Basket can be raised and lowered, but can only be reached by going West from the Timber Room. The Machine Room lies to the South.

Egyptian Room
Map 5. Lies to the East of the North End of Temple. Contains a Coffin within which is a Sceptre.
East of Chasm
Map 3. South of the Cellar. East leads to the Art Gallery
E/W Passage
Map 4. The Troll Room is to the East and the Round Room is to the West. Stairs lead Down to the Chasm
End of Rainbow
Map 2. Found North of the Canyon Bottom. The Aragain Falls lie to the East. SW leads back to the Canyon Bottom. The Rainbow can be walked on after the Sceptre is waved, and then, as you would expect, a Pot of Gold can be seen.
Engravings Cave
Map 4. SE of Round Room, and leads East to the Dome Room
Entrance to Hades
Map 4. Down from the Tiny Cave. Evil Spirits block the gate. South leads to the Land of the Dead.

Forest, East Sunlight
Map 1. 'This is a forest, with trees in all directions. To the east there appears to be sunlight.' It forms long block running N/S on the west.
North leads to the Clearing. South leads to the southern part of the Dimly Lit Forest . The Forest Path lies to the East. It is impossible to go West without a machete.
Forest Path
Map 1. North from the North Side, South from the Clearing, West from the Forest, East Sunlight, East from the eastern Dimly Lit Forest.
A tree can be climbed to get the Jewelled Egg, and later to get the Brass Bauble after winding the Golden Canary.
Forest Thinning
Map 1. East from the eastern Dimly Lit Forest. One can go North, South, or West to the Dimly Lit Forest. There are Impassable Mountains to the East.
Frigid River
Not shown on Maps. You must Launch the Inflatable Boat into the River at the Base of Dam and Look repeatedly to find the Buoy (which contains the Emerald) and then immediately Go East to the Sandy Beach before being swept over the Aragain Falls.


Gas Room
Map 7. Down from the Smelly Room and East to the Coal Mine Maze. Contains a Bracelet and so much coal gas that it is fatal to bring a naked light into this room.
Grating Room
Map 3. Part of the Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike. Can be reached from the Cyclops Room (by going NW, South, West, Up, Down, and NE) though I am not sure why one would want to since after Opening the Grating with the Skeleton Key one cannot get back by reversing those steps. One's score is not increased by opening the Grating.

Kitchen
Map 2. Forms the eastern end of the White House and is entered by opening the Window. West leads to the Living Room and dark stairs lead Up to the Attic. A Chimney leads Up from the Studio .
A brown sack containing Garlic and a Lunch and a Bottle containing Water are found on the table.


Ladder Bottom
Map 7. Down from the Ladder Top. The Dead End lies to the South, and the Timber Room lies to the West.
Ladder Top
Map 7. Down from the Coal Mine and Down again to the Ladder Bottom.
Land of the Dead
Map 5. South of the Entrance to Hades. Contains a Crystal Skull.
Living Room
Map 2. West of the Kitchen in the White House. A Rug covers a Trapdoor which leads down to the Cellar.
Later in the game the Cyclops makes a passage from the Cyclops Room to the Living Room.
Initially contains a Brass Lantern, a Sword, and a Trophy Case.
Loud Room
Map 4. The Round Room is to the West and the Damp Cave is to the East. Stairs lead up to the Deep Canyon
The room is very noisy initially, but can be quietened by saying 'Echo'. However after one turns the Bolt at the Top of the Dam the noise becomes so loud that one cannot stay in the room. There is a Platinum Bar here, which obviously must be removed before turning the Bolt.

Machine Room
Map 7. South from the Drafty Room. Contains, as one might expect, a Machine.
Maintenance Room
Map 4. North or East of the Dam Lobby. A Screwdriver and a Wrench are found here, and a Yellow Button which is pressed as part of the process of draining the Reservoir.
Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike.
Map 3. This is obviously homage to the Colossal Cave Adventure, and like the maze there would be very difficult to solve without help.
The maze is entered from the Troll Room, includes the Skeleton Room, and ends at the Cyclops Room.
Enter the maze by going West from the Troll Room. Then go South, East, and Up to the Skeleton Room. Then go SW, East, South, and SE to enter the Cyclops Room
Another part of the Maze goes off to the Grating Room.
Mine Entrance
Map 6. North from the Slide Room and West to the Squeeky Room.
Mirror Room
Map 4. North leads to the Narrow Passage. The South wall is a mirror, and Rubbing this mirror takes one to the Other Mirror Room. East leads to the Tiny Cave. West leads to the Winding Passage.
Mirror Room, Other
Map 6. This is reached by Rubbing the Mirror in the Mirror Room. Although it looks the same as the first room it leads to different places.
North leads to the Cold Passage. Rubbing the Mirror on the South Wall takes one back to the Mirror Room. East leads to the Other Tiny Cave. West leads to the Twisting Passage.


Narrow Passage
Map 4. Leads from the Round Room in the North to the Mirror Room in the South.
North End of Temple
Map 5. Reached Down stairs from the Torch Room. The Egyptian Room is to the East, and the Altar Room lies to the South. Contains a Bell.
North Side of the House
Map 1. North leads to the Forest Path , East leads to Behind House, and West leads to the West Side
N/S Passage
Map 4. The Chasm is North, the Round Room is South, and the Deep Canyon is NE.

Reservoir
Maps 4,6. At the beginning of the game the Reservoir is full, and is impassable. It can be drained by pressing a Yellow Button in the Maintenance Room and turning the Bolt on the Top of Dam with the Wrench.
When the Reservoir has been drained it can be crossed, and a Trunk of Jewels can be found.
The North Side of the Reservoir (AKA Reservoir North, Map 6) lies South of the Atlantis Room. There is an Airpump here.
The South Side of the Reservoir (AKA Reservoir South, Map 4) lies NW of the Deep Canyon and NE of the Chasm. The Stream View lies to the West, and the Top of Dam to the East.
Round Room
Map 4. North leads to the N/S Passage, South leads to the Narrow Passage, East leads to the E/W Passage, and West leads to the Loud Room


Sandy Beach
Map 2. North from the Shore. There is a Shovel here. The Sandy Cave lies to the NE.
Sandy Cave
Map 2. NE from the Sandy Beach. If you Dig in Sand with the Shovel you will find a Scarab.
Shaft Room
Map 7. West from the Bat Room and North to the Smelly Room. There is a Shaft containing a Basket which can be raised or lowered to and from the Drafty Room.
Shore
Map 7. A way station between the Aragain Falls to the South and the Sandy Beach to the North.
Skeleton Room
Map 3. Part of the Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike. Contains the Skeleton of a previous adventurer, a Bag of Coins, the Rusty Knife which is probably what killed the adventurer, and a Skeleton Key.
Small Clearing
Map 1. North leads to the eastern Dimly Lit Forest, South leads to the southern Dimly Lit Forest, East leads to the Canyon View, and West leads to Behind House.
Slide Room
Map 6. West from the Cold Passage and North to the Mine Entrance. The Slide leads Down to the Cellar.
Smelly Room
Map 7. North from the the Shaft Room and Down to the Gas Room. The smell is a warning that it may be dangerous to take a naked light any further.
South Side of the House
Map 1. South leads to the southern Dimly Lit Forest , East leads to the Behind House, and West leads to the West Side
Squeeky Room
Map 7. West from the Mine Entrance and North to the Bat Room.
Stone Barrow
Not shown on Zork 1 Maps. After all you have found all the Treasures a Map will appear showing that this is SW of the West Side. Zork 2 starts here.
Stream View
Map 4. West of the Reservoir, South Side
Studio
Map 3. North of the Art Gallery. Up leads to the Kitchen via the Chimney

Timber Room
Map 7. West from the Ladder Bottom and West to the Drafty Room through an entrance so narrow that only the Screwdriver can be taken through it.
Tiny Cave
Map 4. AKA Cave. North leads to the Mirror Room, and West leads to the Winding Passage. Down leads to the Entrance to Hades.
Tiny Cave, Other
Map 6. This is reached from the Other Mirror Room. It has the same description and layout as the Tiny Cave, but leads to different places.
North leads back to the Alternate Mirror Room. West leads to the Twisting Passage. Down leads to the Atlantis Room
Top of Dam
Map 4. North leads to the Dam Lobby, South to the Deep Canyon, and West to the Reservoir, South Side. Down leads to the Dam Base.
There is a Bolt which is turned as part of the process of draining the Reservoir, and a Green Bubble which glows as the draining is happening.
Torch Room
Map 5. Reached by climbing down the Rope from the Dome Room. Contains an Ivory Torch. The North End of Temple is Down some steps.
Treasure Room
Map 3. Up the stairs from the Cyclops Room. This is where the Thief keeps all his treasures, including a Silver Chalice and those he has stolen from you; and to where he will return when you enter it.
Troll Room
Map 3. Found North of the Cellar and contains the Troll which must be killed to get access to most of the underground empire.
West leads into the Maze of Twisty Little Passages, All Alike, and East leads into the E/W Passage
Twisting Passage
Map 6. Rather a dead end. North leads to the Other Mirror Room, and East leads to the Other Tiny Cave.

West Side of House
Map 1. This is where the game starts. North leads to the North Side , South leads to the South Side , and West leads to the Forest, East Sunlight.

Winding Passage
Map 4. North to the Mirror Room, and East to the Tiny Cave.
White Cliffs
Map 4. East of the Damp Cave
White House
Map 2. This is a complex structure entered by opening the Window from Behind House. The Kitchen forms the east end and leads to the Living Room on the west.
