Eat
Insects Tonight !
2.
Where to get them?
Call
your local pet shop and ask if they keep live insects. A surprising
number do, for feeding snakes and lizards. It's unwise to cook
wild insects in case they've become contaminated with insecticides.

3.
How to kill them?
It's
important to eat your insects fresh. Stick everything but the
mealworms in the freezer for an hour or so to slow them down and
wash before cooking. Mealworms usually get fried alive. Put them
in an equal weight of bran 24 hours before you want to cook them,
then wash in several changes of water, discarding any dead ones
and pat dry with kitchen towel.
3.
How to cook them?
Girlie
kitchen bit: many recipes require dry-roasted insects. Heat your
oven to 200C/gas mark 7, spread them out on an ungreased baking
tray and cook until crisp. Brown crickets and mealworms are ready
in 10 mins, black crickets take 15 mins, and locusts may need
up to 20 mins.
