The Junkyard: News
May 16, 1999
Weekends...weekends...finally I got around to writing the next part of whatever it's called. I still haven't come up with a name for it...
Anyway, Part 3 should be up here.
TAWS is having yet more troubles with their domain name - apparently it can take up to a month to register it, which is not good news. It does give me more time to get NJ - New Junkyard - going, though - you can check out the first few pages at this address. Please, please, please, please, please give me some feedback on this! I need to know what you think about it. Mail me here at camtarn@hotmail.com.

Well, I've put the first two days of my long weekend to good use. I've written a new part of The Artifact. Part V: Battle on Ice is now up here and on the Cavedog Warstories BBS. Enjoy! Might have another part tomorrow, it depends on what else I get caught up in.

Well, I've updated Veterans...again, it seems...(?!). I made a news post saying I updated it but the copy I have has only 27 parts...
Whatever happened, it's updated and you can find it here. Also updated is my new story - I haven't thought of a name for it yet, of course. The second part is up here.
Aside from that, there's still not much news to report. I still haven't got that elusive processor (argh!).

What can I say? Andy is the man. He cleaned out the JY directory, and it looks MUCH better. Thank you.
I've been working with the affiliate program, involving TAWS, Lunaria IX, and Z-TA, although Z-ta has not yet linked to us, so their banner is a day away from coming down. Shame.
We are sad to announce that we've been forced to demote Pyro to TA STUFF Master, due to his severe lack of updates. I will not comment on the issue, except to say that he isn't taking it well. We hope that having a TA STUFF Master will increase the stuff on that page, because it IS lacking.
I've only 14 more days of classes left, and summer is soon to come. Expect more writing and updates on my part. That is all.

Oops, didn't update yesterday. Anyway, I have kinda given up on Veterans, since it's not quite going as I expected. I've written what I suspect will be my last episode for a while, and that's up here. In replacement for that, I've started a new story, not named of course (proud tradition with me...) and that's up at the moment if you want to read it.
In other news, TAWS has finally got its server and domain name - last time I saw Andrew he was busy uploading around 50 megs of files to the server. How the heck does a site run to 50 megs anyway? The Junkyard is around, oh, four, five megs - more if you include all the debris that's in there from the last site redesign and I haven't got rid of yet. So with luck we'll get a chance to upload this week.
Still no news on the processor front - no shop has *any* PIIIs! Argh! Apart from that, there's not really that much news.

A few things to say. Number 1: Who is it who keeps updating the war stories page without downloading it first? May 7th I updated New Blood, but it was listed as April 27th. It's nothing big, just a little annoying thing.
Anyway, speaking of New Blood, Series 4 has ended with yet another superb part, the epilogue, which you can find here. It deals with the fact that "A person
who has been patterned has had a chance to experience both a biochemical existence and an
electromechanical one, so why is it any of them think a patterned existence is superior to a life
in the flesh? One of the biggest problems is: what do they do for...um...pleasure between
consenting adults?". Great read, as usual.

I didn't get this new part of The Artifact written as quickly as I thought I would. It proved to be quite hard to do, since I haven't quite gotten far into the main plot yet. When I finally worked out what I wanted to happen, Part IV, which I'd originally planned to be quite short, kinda exploded. IVa is still short, but IVb is one of the longest parts I've ever written. I hope you enjoy!

Oh well, it's done now - I've reformatted all those parts. You can find them here: Part 4.3, part 4.4, part 4.5 and part 4.6.
Meanwhile, I'm working on the new site design - hopefully I'll have it done in to to upload to TAWS, but I doubt that I will have got everything working. Anyway, I'll upload the pages as I do them, so the other JY members can access them.
-Andy
Hm. Please don't tell me we haven't updated New Blood since Part 4.2! This is weird. Anyway, I'll format the "missing" parts and put them up until someone can tell me what's been going on...
-Andy
"Depress the button, it had said. It seemed a strange way of getting the door to open, she thought, but Curtis had said you needed to talk to most things on the spaceship. Oh well, she thought.
'You're a very ugly button," she said, glaring at it. It was a start..."
Yet more New Blood - Part 6 should be up as you are reading this. In fact, I thought we had somehow missed out six episodes from 4.2 onwards. I logged on and started formatting...then as I reached Part 5 suddenly realised that I had forgotten to download the latest copy of the New Blood file. Can you say "DUH!"?
Anyway, even more great news - I've finally got a new computer! Admittedly, it's only a bit of a new computer at the moment - a case, solid, weighs a ton, plus a hard drive, also weighing a lot more than it should, and a keyboard which weighs a lot *less* than it should, being a cheap model. Oh, and a mouse. Both of which I can't connect up as I didn't buy a motherboard. Great, huh? Anyway, that comes tommorow, and in a few weeks time I should have one fully-assembled Celeron P400 system with DVD, CD-toaster (Cmdr Wedge's words, I jsut love the idea of toasting CDs instead of burning them...), SBLive!, and all the trimmings.
More news on TAWS's server: They are negotiating with the domain name guys, and the server should be up in about a week's time - and we can move in and get rid of these *$@!#@$&* adverts! Which should be good. Anyway, see you in a bit.

"'Robots are totally logical. They cannot do anything without a clear reason.' Curtis looked pleased with his logic.

Well, I've lately been swamped with work again. Math test, various homework assignments, economics test, and I'm sure you get the idea. I have managed to write two new parts of The Artifact. Parts IIIa and IIIb are now uploaded to Junkyard and available on Cavedog's Warstories BBS. Enjoy, and mail any comments to Sterling.

Hehe...third news post today! More Veterans up! And Sterling's written yet another part of The Artifact - even better than the last one, which is pretty hard - but he hasn't put it into HTML yet. Expect it pretty soon. Anyway, you can find Part 27 of Veterans here.

"ARRRRGGGHHHH!!! IT'S FRED!!!!!! RUUUUUUUUU [splaattt]"
Un-named A.K.
Do you know that I haven't actually physically checked the site's pages for months? Disgraceful, I call it...
Anyway, on checking the War Stories page, I noticed that some clever person had thought to put award symbols next to the various war stories. Somehow I suspect Chris. Anyway, the symbols were unfortunately pretty unreadable, so they've been replaced by these little cup-symbols ( and so on) which denote the various awards. I've also put a little explanation here so you don't go away completely puzzled. Hopefully, I'm working on more permanent versions of the "cups" which might look a little better - clearer anyway would be nice, I think. Big kudos to Lumnous and Ry for actually organising the awards in the first place, and also for running that great site that is Lunaria IX. Very good, guys! Anyway, I should stop spouting this stuff and go back to writing. See you later...
-Andy
"Apologies for that stupid quote earlier. And I still can't think of one."
Well, there's yet more Veterans up now - this is amazing, I'm actually updating the Junkyard almost immediately after I post the story, which is a long way from the "Oh, how many parts have I missed? Twelve? Wow." days when I started The Junkyard...[grins]
Anyway, Veterans Part 26 is up here.
-Andy
"Chickens can't dance. I couldn't think of a decent quote, OK? Can I go now?"

Alright, I've moved the images from the menubar frame (where they were a bit too small) to the bottom of the News page, and I've also made them Transparent so they fit in with the background. Take a look at the sites.
Hopefully the sites should have our banner up in a little while - that's really Chris's job, though, so I'll leave it to him.

Today I went out and got some affiliates, including Z-TA and TAWS, and their banners are in the frame, although I'm not sure they're stay there. Well, I've just been summoned by a freind to play catch, so I must be gone. BTW , what is this, Day 13 of straight daily updates for me? :-)
-Chris
OK, that's about it from me.

I was thinking earlier that there would be nothing to really update. I was wrong. We've got the TEMPLARS! I'd personally like to congratulate our own Andy, for sweeping of the 5 catagories! Without further adue, here they are!

Argh! Cavedog servers seem to be down, so I can't post my latest part of Veterans. However, it is formatted and up here. Apart from that, there's not really that much news. I'm planning on building a new computer for myself sometime soon - I've managed to convince Mum this one is outdated, and I've got permission to build it. I just odn't have the cash right now, unfortunately...[sighs]
