At the Electronic Entertainment Expo in May 1999, Nintendo revealed an alliance with Matsushita and IBM to produce their next generation console, code-named Dolphin. Matsushita will supply Nintendo with DVD media and DVD drives for Dolphin. IBM will provide a custom PowerPC-based CPU for the console. Preliminary specifications have been released.
