The tales and visions of the scribes of Cyuk lie among these pages. Perhaps your deeds and divinations have a place among the scribes as well… The scribes beckon you, to spill forth the knowledge that you have gained as an inhabitant of the lands of the suns. Perhaps your knowledge will save another a horrible fate, or perhaps yours will be the one to lead them to it. No matter, your knowledge is desired nevertheless, for knowledge is knowledge, and that knowledge brings power, does it not?
There are currently three methods of joining the scribes of Cyuk in their quest to unravel the mysteries of the lands, by joining the Misery Ascendant mailing list, where rough ideas and sketches can be discussed and melded into something useful; by sending individual submissions for list and game master approval, and the most ambitious of all, the grand undertaking of detailing a continent all your own.
The Misery Ascendant Mailing List – This is a discussion forum, a place for ideas to be bandied about, and also, is the first to see new material as it is released. The Misery Ascendant Mailing list can be found at its homepage, and the archives for previous mails can be found here.
Individual submissions can include anything from creatures and NPC’s to villages and dungeons, and anywhere in between. This is the most common form of submission, which must conform to the standards set elsewhere on the site, and detailed more completely farther down this page.
Those who wish to embark upon detailing one of the twelve continents of the world will first have to have met the approval of the current council members, for quality is most assuredly required for this stage of world creation. Those who wish to do this should be well versed in the content of the site, so that no contradictions are made. The site is intended to remain canon, and no material that does not have the full blessing of the council as being canon will not be posted on the site.
Rules for Submissions:
- It is very important to keep an open line of communication with the council members of the setting. At present, these are the people to contact with questions, comments, suggestions, and any other ideas that you may have had. MuddWhore@aol.com, TreEydBear@aol.com, MiseryAscendant@hotmail.com, LordArlannd@aol.com, and MiseryCharacter@hotmail.com, and lastly PaperBox0@aol.com. Whenever you hear ‘council members’ referred to, this is the people that it is talking about.
- Grammar and spelling are very important, as entries with frequent misspellings and grammatical errors detract from the work, and make it very difficult to read. When this is the case, more time than not the entry will be turned down before it is given a fair chance. All of the current council members hold English as their native and primary tongue, and as such, this is the language for which submissions must adhere.
- Improper language, such as slang and profanity are strongly discouraged, and their presence will rule out ANY submission. Posted articles are expected to be done in a professional manner. This site is intended for a wide array of ages and maturity levels, as such, let your readers read between the lines when discussing material that may or may not be appropriate to certain age levels.
- The Misery Ascendant campaign setting is extremely low magic. Magic use is often feared by the common masses. There is evidence to suggest, however, that magic was once very prominent on the lands of Cyuk, but this no longer seems to be the case. Please keep this in mind when submitting articles for inclusion on the Misery Ascendant site.
- There is extreme racial tension between all of the races, goodly or not. Elves hate humans hate elves hate dwarves hate halflings, and so on. The most likable of the races are the halflings, who seem able to meld into any community at will. Please keep this in mind before submitting an article.
- Magic Items are almost as rare as mages themselves, although a few have survived from the times when magic was more commonplace. All magic items in this campaign setting are treated as artifacts, in the sense that they are all unique, are all created for a purpose, and all have a detailed history and description. There are no 'ordinary sword +1' magic items in the setting.
- We are always on the lookout for additional NPC entries to help flesh out our world. All characters are expected to be fully detailed with a history and description that fit into the ebb and flow of the Misery Ascendant campaign setting. In general, we expect a three hundred to five hundred word description, and about one thousand words per character level for a character’s history. Examples of characters that have already been submitted to the site can be found at www.oocities.org/miseryascendnt/Anguish.html.
- The Archives of Foul Denizens, our Monstrous Compendium™, is constantly growing to add new life to the campaign. We are looking for unique creatures to add to the setting. Examples to be found at www.oocities.org/miseryascendnt/Visage.html.
- An extensive pantheon of gods has been written, and can be found at www.oocities.org/miseryascendnt/Faith.html. Should it inspire you to detail one of the faiths more extensively, feel free to do so. This might include sects of a particular faith, temples or churches, and so on. Keep in mind that the gods are seldom able to make actual contact with their faithful, and that priests do not gain the ability to cast first level magicks until the third level has been reached. Therefore, keep the appearances of avatars and the like to a minimum, and even then, keep it in the faiths history.
- There are a total of twelve continents on the planet of Cyuk, only four of which have even begun to be detailed. The compulsion strike to begin the detail of any of these, be it even a small portion, kingdom, or island, we are always welcome to any submissions.
- The artwork on the site is somewhat lacking. If particularly inspired while perusing the site, feel free to submit any and all artwork for inclusion on these pages. We are looking for professional quality work, no stick figure drawing, please.
- Lastly, we reserve the right to deny anything that we feel does not fit into the campaign world, as we see it. In general, we are very lenient in this regard, and more than likely to squeeze something into the campaign if we like it enough. All submitted articles are assumed to have author permission to be posted on this site. This is the only thing that will be done with the material. If for some reason there is a desire to publish any material, an authors written signature is required. All submitted articles remain the intellectual property of the original author. Credit for work will be noted in all applicable places.
