Workshops

I've lectured on journalism for the New School for Social Research (New York), the University of Toronto, Carleton University, Western University, Ryerson Polytechnic University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, the University of Regina, Mohawk College, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

I've written three books on storytelling and journalism - with varying degrees of success:

  • The CBC-TV Journalism Trainer's Guide
  • The Television Storyteller - A Guide For TV Journalists
  • Everything you always wanted to know about how to be a TV journalist in the 21st century but didn't know who to ask or Storytelling And The Anima Factor.

Along the way, I've picked up membership in a variety of professional organizations. Among them:

  • Vice-President and Founding Director, International Broadcast Training of Canada (IBToC)
  • Vice-Chairperson, Commonwealth Journalists Association (Canada)
  • Chairperson Ethics Committee, Canadian Association of International Development Consultants (CAIDC)
  • Director, Writer's Guild of America (East)
  • Member, Commonwealth Association for Education in Journalism and Communication; Canadian Journalists for Free Expression; the Canadian Journalism Educators Association; the Canadian Association of Journalists; Journalists for Human Rights; Society of Environmental Journalists.

I believe that TV journalists have to abandon testosterone-think and go back to the past - to traditional storytelling - if we are to fully and faithfully serve our viewers and the free marketplace of ideas.

With Hemingway, I believe that the world is a wonderful place and worth fighting for.
