Paintball Terms: |
Here are some definitions...
Agitator
: |
A device that is built into the paint hopper which aids in the dropping of paintballs into the gun. The Agitator keeps paintballs from getting stuck in the hopper and helps to keep the paint loading under intense conditions or rapid fire. It uses a small motor which agitates the balls to keep a continuos flow.
Anodizing
: |
An electrolytic oxidation process in which the surface of a metal is converted to a coating having desirable protective, decorative, of functional properties.
Barrel Plug
: |
A simple device that fits into the barrel of all paintball guns. The barrel plug is the safest way to keep your marker from shooting someone in the eye and keep your barrel clean. You should always place the barrel plug into the end of the barrel when your gun is not being used.
Bottom Line
: |
A bottom line system attaches at the base of the gun's grip system. (On an ICD gun this would be at the base of the 45 grip frame.) Many players prefer bottom line setups because it allows them to sight down the gun quicker. A bottom line kit will also lower the center of gravity or balance on the gun which helps when you need to shoot paint quickly on the run. If you are looking at a remote air system many players prefer remote because the attachment off the bottom line keeps the hoses under your arm and out of the way.
Breech: |
The entry point for paintballs on the gun. The breach sits just above the firing chamber so that paintballs can be staged with out jamming. Indian Creek Design uses a Power Feed gravity system developed by Airgun Designs, to keep your paint flowing without the hassle of jams or chopped balls.
CoČ: |
Carbon Dioxide - Used to power paintball guns. When under pressure takes on a liquid form, when released it changes to a gas. CO2 is non combustible.
Chronograph: |
A device that measures the speed of a paintball after it is shot from the barrel of the gun. It is important to check the speed of all paintballs shot from the gun before you engage in competition. The safe maximum speed of a paintball is 300 feet per second.
Expansion Chamber
: |
A device that lets CO2 expand to a consistent gas state instead of a liquid form. When CO2 is charged into a canister it becomes a liquid. CO2 gas delivers much better performance than it's liquid form.
Field Strip: |
The process of tearing down a gun in the field and cleaning the length of the gun.
FPS: |
Feet Per Second - refers to the speed of a paint ball shot from a marker.
Goggles: |
Designed to protect your eyes. Many goggles now protect your ears and face. Many types of goggles are available, be sure to get one that meets today's impact standards. For more information on standards see the ASTM Standard on eye protectors for paintball.
Harness: |
Worn by a player - used to store extra paintballs and CO2 tanks. Many players use a harness to support remote CO2 systems.
IPPA: |
International Paintball Player's Association
IPPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and advancement of paintball. It was founded in 1987 as an attempt to educate the general public about the sport.

Another name for "paintball gun". A device used to mark other players in the exciting sport of paintball.
Micro-Honed Barrels: |
The process of polishing the inside of a barrel to a mirror like finish to ensure the best performance with all types of paint and conditions.
Muzzel Break: |
The muzzle break is a precision set of cuts into the end of each barrel. ICD muzzle breaks helps to increase accuracy and reduce noise.
Nitrogen: |
HPA - High Pressure Air - used in "high-end" competition play. Tends to keep it's consistency in all types of weather conditions.
Regulator: |
A device that controls high pressure input gases and gives constant output pressure gases. Regulators allow precise adjustment for the velocity control of the gun as well as precise gas efficiency. When you combine a regulator with a high quality marker you get a high performance and consistent performing gun.
Semi-Automatic: |
Refers to paintball guns that can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger.
Sight Rail: |
A device that mounts on top of the gun to increase the quickness and accuracy of your aim.
Squeegee: |
A cleaning device used to quickly remove paint and residue from a paintball gun. This helps the marker to shoot more accurately and consistently.
Vertical Angled Tank System (VATS): |
The VATS angles the air canister for front mounts to give a better balance for those who like to shoot with one hand.
Venturi Bolt: |
The Venturi Bolt allows gases to evenly surround the paintball projectile so that it keeps its shape and follows a consistent trajectory.Venturi Bolts are standard equipment on all ICD guns.
Vertical Tank System (VTS): |
The VTS or Vertical Tank System feature allows the air canister to mount in the center of the gun. This helps to balance the gun and makes a great handle for shooting on the fly.
