ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
The ESL program offers FREE classes, individual tutoring and computer learning programs in English for students of other languages. Books, audio tapes and video tapes are provided to improve reading and writing, speaking, listening and pronunciation skills, workplace literacy, and citizenship guidelines.
Conversational English and vocabulary classes are offered to help develop listening skills, speaking skills and vocabulary through discussion groups, individual tutoring, and multi-media activities.
CITIZENSHIP
Citizenship classes and individual tutoring are available for those interested in becoming United States citizens. Based on the guidelines for becoming a citizen, each student will gain an understanding of the history, principles, and forms of government in the U.S., as well as how to attain and complete U.S. Government Immigration forms. Registration for these classes begins in the Fall of each year with classes starting in January.
ENGLISH IN THE WORKPLACE
This program is made up of a series of workshops which teach occupational applications of basic skills with actual job materials. The lessons are geared to help workers achieve job proficiency.
NOTE: The basic skills needed by a worker to accomplish the tasks on a given job are taught, not the job tasks themselves.
