Tenchi Muyo is about an average boy called Tenchi Misaki, who, out of curiosity, stole his grandfather's keys to a cave. Tenchi never found out what was inside the cave. but he was told by his grandpa that his ancestor fought a devil with a powerful sword and locked it in the cave. When Tenchi reached the end of the cave, he found the sword. But when he took it out, it was all rusty. Thinking that it was a useless piece of junk, he hit it against a stone and broke it in half. A secret passage was revealed. That was where Tenchi found the devil, Ryoko.
