Everyday anime shows

Shows I can watch on regular cable!

Sailor Moon- *****

I think it's pretty obvious that I like this show (I think the homepage gave it away!). I absolutely adore this show. I first got exposed to Sailor Moon by my friends. They were making a big deal about Sailor Moon so, what the heck, I decided to see the show. My first impression... catchy theme song!! No, I really love the show (even if it is the DiC dub!). The animation is fantastic and I love the majority of the characters. The story is also great. Way to go Sailor Moon and Co.

Robotech and other series- ****

Sailor Moon exposed me to my big anime obsession. So now I wanted to see any kind of anime show that I could see in the U.S. Thus, I stumbled upon Robotech. My mom said that my brother used to watch this and I'm like "Wow! That's pretty old!". Well, it is considering I was either 1 or 2 when it was made ^_^. However, this is one really cool show. Not something I catch everyday like I do with Sailor Moon but, I catch it as often as I can. With great characters and plot, I really enjoy this show. My favorites are: In the first season: female- Lisa Hayes and male- Max Sterling. In the second season (I'll get titles up later!) my two favorites are Lt. Marie Crystal and Lt. Nova Satorie (sp? I'll try and find right way of spelling it!). There are some characters that get on my nerves (Lyn Minmei!!) and some who are bordering tolerable and annoying (Dana Sterling!). But, otherwise a great show!

Voltron- ***

Heh heh another really old show ^_^! I actually liked this show. This was my second anime I've ever seen. I actually had a major Voltron phase. It was pretty cool. I like all the characters except the Princess. I don't know why. She just bugs me! Although there was not a variety of voices, the show is pretty good. There are a lot of likeable characters and a pretty good plot to it. Overall a good show.

Dragonball Z- ****

Well now I've seen enough to say that Dragonball Z is a pretty good show. There is a lot of fighting in the show. It is really a 'boy' show. Excuse me, a shonen show!!! -_^ Anyway this a pretty cool show. There some really cool good guys and the villains are so much better. My favorite good boy is Krilin and villain would have to, hands down, be Vegeta! Anyway, this is one really awesome show.

Speed Racer- ****

The first (that I know of) anime I've seen and it's REALLY old. I really like it. I was also in a big Speed Racer phase for a while. Now I can't watch it unless I wake up at 1 in the morning (I don't think so!). It really is a great show. I love the characters. The plot is steady. There are some peak moments in the show (Racer X identity and etc.). This is definitely a classic show. I give it 2 thumbs up!

Pokemon- *****

I'm BAAAAACK! Pikachu is soooo kawaii!! My friend (whom I got hooked on Pokemon) absolutely adores the show and she's been drawing pictures of the Pokemon especially Pikachu. Anyway, I really like the show. The characters are awesome. They're not overly annoying and they don't have annoying voice!! The theme song is really catchy. When I first heard it, I thought it was so dumb. Now it's stuck in my head nearly 24-7. I absolutely adore this show. The characters are wonderful. The villains are so dumb that you can't help but like them! I've seen so many episodes. Anyway, the show is action packed and humor filled. Very few were dull. I love this show! Look out Sanrio, Pokemon is up and coming in the cute department!

Wow! I need to update those!

Digimon: Digital Monsters

Now here's another monster show over here in North America. I actually like it. I was hooked on Pokemon at the time but that didn't override my desire to see a new anime show. Well, it's kinda like Pokemon but much more serious. I mean, these 7 (soon to be 8) kids have to save a mysterious world, and later, try to save their own. Boy, did the show also take a turn to the darker side for a bit. It was just much more serious than I could imagine. You defeat one bad guy only to face a bigger and badder evil, your friends are dead, dying, or going to die, the group is falling apart, and then once you've saved the world you have to get home in 2 hours or you die! Pleasant neh? Anyway, all's in Digi-land. The animation is pretty good. A bit more detailed than Pokemon. The voices aren't all that bad and season 2 or D2 is promising. I'd recommend the show.
Favorite: Matt/Yamato
Favorite Digimon: Gabumon, Gomamon, and Patamon
Least Favorite: Well, I never really liked Agumon.

Gundam Wing:

Thank You Cartoon Network! Yah, yah, I know some of the North American voices can't quite compare to the Japanese voices (although I've seen many who think Treize's voice is better in the N.A. version), but what if it were the other way around? NOthing can really compare to the original. Anyway, the animation is superb. Plot? I like it. It's fun trying to figure out everybody's true motives and it does make you think. This is one of the FEW, if not the ONLY, show airing on tv that keeps the actual music in Japanese (I freaked when I heard 'Just Communication' and 'Rhythym Emotion' in its full form on tv). that never happens. Normally, they put in some rather tacky music. Needless to say, I was happy! the script/translation is almost dead on, too. Some quotes I was anticipation were performed and I was psyched. But there are some sketchy moments. Don't worry about all the dialogue and battle edits (ie. blood). That's only for the edited version during the Toonami block. The uncut version in all it's 'bloody', 'God of Death', 'I'm going to kill you', and 'Damn' (among other things) glory airs on the Midnight Run block. Bold move by Cartoon Network. Unfortunately Gundam Wing currently isn't playing on either the Toonami block or Midnight Run. Catch this show, it's worth it!
Favorite: Quatre, Duo, Treize, and Sally
Least: Relena (Anybody shocked at that?)

Tenchi Muyo: Thanks, Cartoon Network. Once again Cartoon Network brought along another wonderful anime. Granted there were a bunch of edits, the show maintained my attention. Anybody notice the slip up of cuss words every once in a while (okay, it only happened once but it shows the editors can’t catch everything and I just find that humorous. Yeah). So, I really enjoy the series. I like the different versions of the Kagato/Yosho plots. The animation is well done. It did take me awhile to adapt to the different style used in Tenchi in Tokyo. A nice show and chock full of humor, romance, angst and whatnot!
Favorite character: Kiyone
Least Favorite: I like ‘em all

Monster Rancher: Yup, another monster show. This rivals Digimon in seriousness. At first I thought Monster Rancher was much more serious than Digimon, but at the rate Digimon was going –at the time- it made things even out. Anyway, I also enjoyed this series. I love everybody. The voices may not compare to the Japanese version (I’ve never even seen that version. Why did I write that?), but I couldn’t care less because each voice fits perfectly with the character’s personality. The animation, I think, is more detailed than Pokémon or Digimon. So other than that, I can say that I enjoy Monster Rancher. There is a steady plot and I’m kind of surprised that I couldn’t fathom a guess as to how resurrect the Phoenix. I also enjoyed the very end. A worthwhile series.
Favorite Character: Tiger and Hare
Least Favorite: I don’t know. Moo?

Card Captors: Okay, I know people have been bitching about the series -and I don’t blame them. However, my main gripe is that they jump around with the episodes. I don’t understand why they can’t show it all in order. Anyway, my intention was just to watch the show for the animation because it’s a CLAMP series and I adore CLAMP’s works. So I really enjoy the animation. The voices aren’t all that bad, but they’re not outstanding either. The name changes are also a bit interesting. It’s funny, you keep the same name for the main characters but everybody else has their name changed. The supporting characters’ names really don’t have that much of a hard pronunciation. Heck, I still can’t pronounce Syaoran’s name. It’s hard. Anyway, a decent show, but with everything going out of whack I can’t really give it rave reviews. Wait for it to come out on video or DVD, uncut and in chronological order.
Favorite Character: I happen to like them all
Least Favorite: ?

Ronin Warriors: Another blast to the past for some. Not bad. Some of the voices take some time getting used to and there are others where I don’t think I’ll ever get used to. I don’t think they’re showing all the episodes that were dubbed, but I’m not entirely sure because I didn’t see the show when it first aired. It just seemed too short. Anyway, it’s not a bad series. It’s pretty good and I happen to like it. So, it’s a decent show and I’m sure it has its fair share of loyal followers. Animation is nice, too. I especially like the transformation sequence for Ryo (especially the transformation for the white armor).
Favorite Character: Rowen/Touma
Least Favorite: Yuli (annoying brat)

Vision of Escaflowne: Damn Fox Kids for taking this off. I guess it was getting a bit risqué and over their limits. I, personally, loved Escaflowne for the time it was airing. I was falling for all the characters (except for that one persistent princess –what’s her name again?). I adored the music (even if some was different from the Japanese version –which I hear is awesome; seeing who created most of the songs, I don’t blame it four sounding good). Back to the mini review, I also enjoyed the animation. It was just a wonderful blend of colors to create a scene. And, despite the shortage of episodes, there were those “moments” that made me smile. Especially the Van/Hitomi moments. The Merle/Hitomi moments were really funny. A show I would definitely recommend.
Favorite Character: Hitomi
Least Favorite: That Princess
