HONG KONG and SAMURAI Movies

My favorite Movies

GAMERA!!!!, WOW - this movie is so totally COOL!!! You've got to see it if you haven't, lucky for me I have a friend who is holding it at the store so I can buy it!!!

The BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR, this movie is really really good - if you ever saw LEGEND, it kind of has the same style to it - I love this movie!!!!

CHINESE GHOST STORY, There are three of these, of which I have seen the first two. This is another very good story - it revolves around a tax collector who, looking for a free place to stay, ends up in a huanted temple - he falls in love with a ghost without knowing she is... plenty of comedy revolving around the main character and blind luck.

The HEROIC TRIO, One of the first actual "Hong Kong" type flicks that I saw. This one is great for the Babes-who-Kick-Butt type movies. I was unsure when I got it - thought it may not offer a good story, but it turns out to be quite good. Two sisters separated at a young age during training in the martial arts end up finding each other on opposing sides - to then join forces with a bountyhunter to bring the downfall of an evil underworld emperor who is stealing babies to find a successor... really cool!!!

GUNHED, This is fairly easy to get ahold of since A.D.Vision put it out. It is a pretty cool movie, but lacks the REALLY BIG action of some - really well-filmed Sci-Fi with mechs - check it out.

NEWS:

Rented EXECUTIONERS, the sequel to HEROIC TRIO - click pick above for a review of both.

Here is the most recent movie I picked up... it is good for a movie from 1968, but my hopes had been a bit higher. It is about a village which is taken over by an evil chamberlin; the young master and princess escape to the forbidden mountains where the village god resides (a stone statue of a warrior). 10 years later, the young master is of age to try take his position back, but has no men. In an attempt to find allies, his only vassel gets caught and the lord comes to the mountain to find them and destroy the stone god who is said to be angered... well, the last ten minutes you can figure for yourself. For having a coupon and getting it for $11, it's not bad. Whether or not I will get the other 2 is still questionable yet as I cannot just rent them. It is good, but lacks the action most samurai and other films provide as it focuses more on the village suffering.

I rented CHINESE TORTURE CHAMBER STORY - I am amazed that it is rentable, it was rather adult oriented heavy sexual situations dealing with Chinese court using torture to get a couple to confess adultery (a setup) and involvement in the death of a man by giving him an overdose of aphrodisiac and making his privates explode. Yes, you heard me right - it is an odd movie. Interesting, but I don't think I'll ever buy it. O.K. I have to Purge here... WHY!!! WHY!!! WHY!!! How could they (ADVision) make a movie look interesting and it turns out a stinkburger!!!! Yes, I bought TOKYO: Last Megalopolis - and it stinks - I have the anime and it didn't even use any of the cool stuff from it!!! It used the stuff that I thought was dumb - Giger's help on it must have been based on sketches he did when he was young - they had little thrill - I've seen better. The story was almost impossible to follow - it left major gaps and needed major help on editing. I rented FLYING DAGGERS, it has some pretty good actors in it, but has almost too much slapstick comedy in it - the story seemed a little lost in all of the comedy. I do not regret seeing it as it was an interesting movie in general (oh yeah, it has Maggie Chung in it too ^_^). If you check it out expect some goofy martial arts mayhem... I am going to list a few here until I can add pics for them, but I enjoy older Jackie Chan films such as Fearless Hyena and Snake and Crane... it seems they have released them "remastered", so I want to try check one out. I have listed samurai movies as a like of mine but never mentioned any so... There is the Samurai trilogy - sorry for being vague, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Lone Wolf and Cub series. I also have Samurai Reincarnation, which isn't the greatest, but not all that bad. I've seen MYSTERY OF RAMPO - which is reeeaalllly good, FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE, CHUN KING EXPRESS, I prefer older Jackie Chan because I don't tend to enjoy seeing the "Mafia" - drug and gun smuggling type movies too well... don't know why. I should also mention TETSUO the IRON MAN - I and II, as well as ZERAM.
