Sailor Moon S
Welcome to the Sailor Moon Super section. I hope you will find it very informative. Here you will find info on the now English dubbed Sailor Moon S series. I've never seen the Japanese episodes so I am comparing the dubbed episodes to summaries I have read at Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and the Castle in the Sky - Sailor Moon Home Page. Yes this a critique, but though I may say things that I don't like about the dub, I still love the show.
General Info
Voices have been changed!
Luna, Artemis, and Lita are the same. They brought back the original Raye (yay!) and replaced Mina with Emilie Barlow, who did Raye's voice in the last 17 episodes of Sailor Moon R. I think she did really well as Mina. Serena is different also; I've gotten used to it, but I miss the old Serena. I think Darien is the same from the last of SMR. Oh, I almost forgot about Amy! She was replaced too. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to get used to it.
Why were they replaced?? Well you've come to the right place! Thanx to Who Wants to Know?, from the Cherry Hill Temple, I now know why the voice actors left.
- Terri Hawkes (Sailor Moon) is expecting twins. That's why Linda Ballantyne took over.
- Karen Bernstein (Sailor Mercury) and Stephanie Morganstern (Sailor Venus) both had prior commitments, so the roles went to Lisa Balkan and Emilie Barlow, respectively.
- Traci Hoyt (Sailor Mini Moon) returned to the theater, so Stephaine Beard took over the role.
- Sabrina Grdevich (Sailor Pluto) went abroad. Susan Aceron is now Trista.
Thanx again to "Who Wants to Know?" for this information!
Music has been changed!
There's all new background and transformation music. I must say that makes me so happy because all the music comes from the original show! Sailor Moon just gets better and better!
New Characters!
You all know, of course, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus (they pronounce it "urine-us", unlike me who says "yer-anus" i thought that was sooo funny. i know, i'm silly) have made their debut. Their names are Michelle and Amara. I was expecting Michelle because her name is Michiru, but Amara... I was hoping for something better. Setsuna is now back on the show and, as you know, she is Sailor Pluto. I had said her name was probably going to be Susan... Boy, was I wrong! It's Trista (yeah i know, bad isn't it?). Last, but not least, Hotaru! Her name is still Hotaru!! YAY!!
Other changes will be noted in the actual episode that they appeared in.
NOTE: I will not be giving episode summaries. If you want those I suggest going to the websites I stated above. Here you will find episode reviews, changes, and anything else I can think of putting. You can always send in your own reviews/changes, just email them to me. Also, feel free to correct any mistakes I have made and I will change them ASAP.
ANOTHER NOTE: If you see the names Usagi, Ami, Rei, Mako, Minako, Mamoru, Michiru, Haruka, Prof. Tomoe, KaoLinite or anything else that sounds Japanese I am referring to original Japanese version. If you see Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita, Mina, Darien, Michelle, Amara, Dr. Tomoe, KaoRinite etc. I am talking about the North American dub.
Star Struck, Bad Luck
My Review
I think this episode was done pretty well. The dialogue was similiar to what was actually said and I must say I love that. The monsters are still called Diamons, which is cool. Kaorinite sounds like Emerald, who sounded like Zoicite, so in other words they are done by the same person. I like Dr. Tomoe's insane laughter; it's so wicked. I don't see why he can't be called Prof. Tomoe. That really didn't make sense to me. My favorite scene is when Raye and Serena have their little conversation. I couldn't stop laughing when Raye hit Serena on the back. I also liked the end when Serena was crying. It was so funny when she said to Raye, "Can you breathe?" I dunno why, but I thought that was hilarious.
Changes
- In Rei's dream Rei says, "You're the Messiah..." Raye does not mention the Messiah at all.
- Professor Tomoe says he is looking for the three talisman and Holy Grail. Dr. Tomoe doesn't even say the words Holy Grail or talisman. If you were wondering what that big trophy looking thing in the background was, that's the Holy Grail.
- In the fight between the Daimon and Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon is slammed against a wall, but when she actually hits the wall is cut out. We only see her being pulled by the Daimon and then the next thing you know she's on the ground.
- Again the word "talisman" is left out. The mysterious new soldiers (neptune and uranus) just call it "an object of pure power."
Crystal Clear Again
My Review
I don't really know what to say. It was kinda cute, but I didn't really care much for it. Something about it just didn't appeal to me. I did like some of it though. I liked how Serena named the kitten Ginger because of its color. Usgai did the same thing, by naming it Cha-chan. Chairoi is Japanese for brown.
Changes
- Prof. Tomoe asks Kaolinite what the purpose of the Death Busters is. Dr. Tomoe doesn't mention the Death Busters. Also, Prof. Tomoe and Kaolinite speak of finding the Sacred Chalice by getting the three talisman which are inside pure hearts of three chosen people. Dr. Tomoe and Kaorinite, on the other hand, speak of a "Purity Force" and finding three crystals insided the hearts of certain people.
- I had asked what it meant when Serena, Darien, and the little girl all blushed and giggled when they met. I was told by Becky, a fellow Moonie, that Usagi said they were the good guys and were just showing Miharu that her and Mamoru were friendly. Thanx Becky!
- The little girl isn't given a name. In Japan her name is Miharu.
- When Minako hit Artemis is cut out.
- This one made me so mad! Lita says she can't have a cat because her MOM has alergies. Mako-chan's parents died and she lives alone. I can't believe they never spoke about that.
- Another cut. When the Daimon wraps her tail around Miharu's neck and Miharu slams the door on her tail is cut out.
- Burning Mandala is still Mars Celestial Fire, BUT Jupiter Thunder is Sparkling Wide Pressure!!! An original attack!! YAY!
- The Spiral Heart Moon Rod is now the Spiral Heart Moon Scepter. That's not too bad, and the attack is still Moon Spiral Heart Attack.
Driving Dangerously
My Review
I couldn't wait for this episode. I had read about it and I wanted to see it and I was pleased. I love the end where Raye an Lita jump on Mina's back and look for Amara. I laughed so hard when Lita says, "Radar! Radar! Where's the fox?! Where's the fox?! Radar!" It's dubbed pretty well, there are some dialogue changes, but nothing serious.
Changes
- Usagi tells Minako that Haruka and Michiru look like boyfriend and girlfriend. Serena sounds ditzy and just talks about romantic hot chocolate dates and immature spying.
- Haruka tells Minako and Usagi her name and grade. Amara leaves this info out.
- Now here's something to think about. How come when Amara tells Serena and Mina that "there's no us," referring to her and Michelle, Serena and Mina are seen with a broken heart with wings? Pretty odd, huh? You'd think they'd be overjoyed that Amara was single, right? Well, when Minako asked about their relationship Harkua says, "maybe it's even more than that." In other words Michiru and Haruka have some sort of relationship causing Usagi and Minako to have broken hearts.
- Big mistake here!! Mina says "Venus Crystal Power" not "Venus Star Power."
- Venus has some different transformation music. You may remember it from the R movie.
- Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are actually shown; they are not in the shadows.
- Instead of saying "World Shaking," Uranus says, "Uranus World Shaking." Also, "Deep Submerge" is "Neptune Deep Submerge." Not a big change, but I find this quite pointless.
Bad Harmony
My Review
This was an okay episode. It had its moments. I liked the cute question mark eyes Serena had when she picked up Darien's book. Raye's giggle was sooo cute and when she stuck her tongue out at Serena was funny too. I loved Serena playing the violin. That was hilarious!
Changes
- Darien's book was about classical composers, Mamoru's book was about genetic engineering.
- Serena cries because she can't surprise her boyfriend, Usagi cries because she feels she failed at being Mamoru's wife.
- AGAIN "talisman" was left out. I have come to the conclusion it will never be said so I'll stop mentioning it. Amara and Michelle talk about the Purity Chalice. They don't speak of sacrifices or the fact that the owners of the talisman will die.
- When Raye actually hits Serena is cut out. We only see Serena's reaction and a litte bit of Raye's hand.
- Sailor Jupiter does "Jupiter Thunder Power" not "Sparkling Wide Pressure" like before. What's up with that?
- In the end the girls surround Mamoru because they want him to treat them to food, not because he "looks like a total guy" in his suit.
Swept Off Her Feet
My Review
I thought this episode was really cute. It was translated pretty well too. I can't help but laugh at the slang. I mean people do talk like that, but to see it on Sailor Moon is just too funny. I'm talking about when Elizabeth says to Serena, "What's up, dawg?" I can't help but laugh. I also loved when Elizabeth tried to kiss Lita, that was funny too.
Changes
- Lizzy is now Elizabeth.
- Elizabeth talks about her brother Paul forgetting his train ticket. Uh...hello! Last time I checked she was Andrew's sister. Also, Unazuki (Elizabeth) says Motoki (Andrew) forgot something.
- Michelle talks about her first kiss with Brad. Michiru speaks of Adam and Eve who were the first to kiss.
- Mars Fire Balls Charge is now Evil Spirits Begone!!! YAY! Another original attack! It was of course translated from Akuryou Taisan.
Blinded By Love's Light
My Review
I must say I am very upset with this episode. I can't believe they made Michelle and Amara cousins! Not even really good friends, cousins! Can you believe that? I mean I understand some think their relationship is unsuitable for kids, but did they have to make them cousins??
Changes
- Up until this point I hadn't heard the word "Scouts" and I was very pleased, but Dr. Tomoe had to call them "Scouts."
- Heart World was originally called Lovers Park. What a silly change.
- They don't say it, but when Serena gets to the place for Molly and Melvin to register it was too late because the entry slots were full.
- When Serena's telling Molly and Melvin they have to get into the contest Molly blushes and looks down. Why? Well, Usagi was really pointing out Naru (Molly) had the same feelings as Melvin about entering the contest.
- The whole witnessing thing Amy says was really a misunderstood figure of speech.
- I must repeat the fact that Amara and Michelle are not cousins and they entered the contest for fun not as a practical joke....there's a difference.
- Amy says something about hoping Amara and Michelle win. Ami really says she "wonders if it's that kind of relationship."
- The announcer in the dub asks Amara to say the name of her friend. In the original he asks the name of her girlfriend.
- This time Uranus said World Shaking, not Uranus World Shaking (i dunno why, but i thought i'd point that out).
Lita Borrows Trouble
My Review
Lita/Mako is my fave so I was upset with this one, too, because of the changes that were made. I guess I was kind of expecting it though. As much as the show has improved there are still things the dubbers think we can't handle. So what if Serena and the others thought Lita was going out with a girl. That would have made this episode a lot funnier. Is anyone with me on that? I think we can handle stuff like Haruka and Michiru's relationship. Don't you?
Changes
- Serena and Lita's conversation was altered too much. Mako said to Usagi that a tall, muscular girl like her should be good at cooking and Usagi tells Mako she thinks she is pretty.
- Haruku blew a kiss to Usagi and Mako before she left. This was changed to Amara saying "see you around."
- Serena and Lita talk about being best friends. Usagi tells Mako not to forget Haruka is a girl and Mako says she knows and not to think like that. Hehe funny!
- When Michelle gets out of the pool her butt is shown. This of course is cut out. I find this kinda ridiculous. Do you know how many times I've seen Homer/Bart Simpson's butt...without underwear?! I'm not sayin I wanna look at Michelle's butt, I am merely pointing out another pointless cut.
- Haruka calls Mako a pretty girl and Mako blushes. Amara just asks what she and Serena are up to.
- Again it is said Amara and Michelle are cousins. Haruka and Michiru are NOT.
- When Amara talks about making new friends Lita blushes. Why? Haruka really said she wanted to be more friendly with Mako.
- Usagi tells the girls Mako went a date with Haruka. Serena tells them about Lita ditching her and getting ice cream with Amara and Michelle. She also goes on about how Lita blew off shopping. They are really talking about Mako being with a girl. And about that weird magazine (it had a woman dressed as a man on the cover) with the love quiz... It's really a book about an all woman opera group in which they play both male and female parts. Usagi makes it seem like Rei looks at cross dressing books.
- On the communicator watch the girls tell Mako not to give up and go after guys, they don't yell at her for not inviting them. Mako tells them it's not like that and she is attracted to Haruka's coolness.
- It's not really a change, but I wanted to point out something funny. When the daimon opens her robe Lita covers her eyes for fear that the diamon won't have clothes on under it and then she peeks and sees she does. Haha!
- The daimon's black star was on her breast so of course that was cut out.
- Jupiter used Supreme Thunder Crash not Sparkling Wide Pressure.
- In the end while the girls were talking about cats and study buddies in the dub, they were really commenting on Mako's behavior.
Damp Spirits
My Review
Despite Amy's new voice I liked this episode. It has very few changes and the dialogue was a lot like the original.
Changes
- The saying Lita and Mina were talking about was "many hands make light work." It was really "don't cry over spilled milk." I dunno why they changed that...
- More cousin stuff...enough said.
Friendly Foes
My Review
This episode was okay. Not too many changes were made. I thought it was really funny when Kaorinite grabbed Sailor Neptune by the hair. It was a mean thing to do, but it was hilarious.
Changes
- Amy said she was was reading and missed the race. Ami was looking at an English textbook and said that she was so excited she forgot one English word.
- When Amara is holding Serena in the bushes, Serena thinks about missing the bus, but she is blushing. Why? Well, Usagi had thought it felt like she was being held by a guy.
- More cousin mumbo jumbo... Amara and Michelle are cousins, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are cousins, they showed up at the same time...why are connections not being made? Oh sure the perfume thing is sort of a connection, but it's just not good enough.
- Sailor Moon called Uranus a bad person. She didn't in the dub.
Mixed Emotions
My Review
This episode was okay, but it could have been better. I was surprised they left in that Japanese song. I thought the whole purpose was to show how Rei and Yuuichirou (Chad) felt about each other. I feel like that point was totally lost in the dub. It seemed like it was trying to be funny about the whole thing, but it came off to me as kind of stupid. Well, stupid is kinda harsh, but I can't think of another word...
Changes
- Chad and Raye's grandfather have different voices. I didn't really care for Chad's voice before nor do I now, but I liked Grampa's. It was perfect and really funny.
- Yuuichirou brought Rei ramen to eat, not tea and crumpets.
- Yuuichirou wanted to help Rei, he wasn't worried about her not noticing him.
- Serena and Chad's conversation was totally wrong. They don't talk about the love rule book. Usagi and Yuuichirou really talk about what's wrong with Rei. Usagi tells him that Rei is worried about her love and he wants to know who she is in love with (notice the heart that says "love" that falls on his head). Usagi said Rei's fortune telling was to find out when she and Yuuichirou would get married. Yuuichirou was crying because he was happy.
- They cut out when Haruka touches Rei's face.
- Chad knows Amara is a girl, Yuuichirou does not, therefore he mistakes Haruka for a guy and thinks she is Rei's boyfriend.
- What was that thing Amara said about Rei's family tugboat? I thought that was kinda dumb...
- Ami and Minako scold Usagi about not being serious about her exams, they don't talk about Rei being at the temple all the time.
- Rei really doesn't tell Mako about her dream. They don't talk about Chad either. Mako said when Rei figured out what was wrong, the Senshi would spring into action and she hoped it wouldn't be the day before the exam.
- When Yuuichirou saw Haruka with Michiru he thought Haruka was cheating on Rei. Unlike Chad, he couldn't hear what they were saying.
- Yuuichirou tells Haruka not to make Rei sad and break up with Michiru.
- Luna speaks as if it is still raining even though it has stopped.
- This is a mistake in the show. When the girls go out to talk to Chad before he leaves they are in their school uniforms. A minute ago they were in regular clothes.
- There are some more dialogue changes, but I'm too lazy to put them up ^_^;; (this ep seems really long).
- In the dub the daimon says, "Last stop before complete defeat!" In the original she says, "Next stop is hell!"
- Raye talks to Chad about love rules. Rei tells Yuuichirou that Haruka is a woman.
