Artificial Man "Evangelion"

Evangelion or EVA for short is a man-made humanoid bio-machine which posseses great powers. In the battle against the Shito, these EVAs can do hand combat sometimes with the use of weapons such as knives and guns. To support such great powers, the EVA requires a lot of energy to function. Thus during battles, the EVA will have a power cord connected to its back which provides the power needed to do combat. Without the external power-supply, the EVA can only function up to 5 to 1 minute before shut-down. The EVA has a special ability to create the shield in which all Shito has. The shield is called A.T. Field short for Absolute Terror Field.This Field acts like a strong barrier which helps protect the EVA against damage ranging from explosives to physical pressure. The EVA also has the ability to initiate self repair, although it was only witnessed on EVA-01 in episode 2 and 19. The creation of the EVA was made possible after 7 years of experiment and study by an organization called GELHIRN, later known as NERV. A great deal of mysteries lies hidden within these EVAs and each episodes brings you closer to the truth. That is simply how the people from Gainax made the show so successful.


The Evangelions








EVA-00
Prototype
Pilot : Ayanami Rei (1st Children)

The first EVA to be build. Other than the head and the chest, its design is similar to EVA-01. The initial color of EVA-00 was orange. But after being heavily damaged in the fight with Shito Ramiel, it was redesigned and painted blue. The perfomance of this EVA was very unstable, due to the fact it was unable to obtain high Sync Rates with its pilot. Its first battle was in episode 4. Rei chose to self destruct EVA-00 in order to save Ikari Shinji from Shito Armisael in episode 23. The pilot miraculously survived, or is it?




EVA-01
Test Type
Pilot : Ikari Shinji (3rd Children)

Modified from EVA-00 under Project E, this EVA is the most powerful among the three ever in service with Nerv. Due to some hidden reasons, the existence of this EVA was the main priority of commander Ikari Gendou. Great amount of resources was put into its improvement. The EVA had high Sync Rates with the pilot and this boostered its preformance. It was the only EVA that made 3 second power-up "EVA sai kidou" attempts after exhausting all its energy. In all three attempts, the EVA went 'berserker' and savagely destroyed the Shito it was fighting with. Mysteries yet to be known lies within this EVA.



EVA-02
Production Model
Pilot : Soryu Asuka Langley (2nd Children)

The first EVA to be put into production in the attempt to ward off the attacks of Shito. In the words of Asuka, it was the first man-made EVA. The initial design and body parts were produced in Japan. But the assembling and test was conducted at Doyce. The body of this EVA is red in color and it had four sensors on it head which tends to be mistaken for eyes. A progressive knife is kept in its left shoulder-blade. This EVA was seen to use weapons such as Sonic-Greip (spear) and Smash-Hawk (axe). Made its first appearance and battle at sea in episode 8.



EVA-03
Production Model
Pilot : Suzuhara Toji (4th Children)

EVA-03 was black in color and its designed similar to EVA-02. During its journey from America to the test site in Japan, it was contaminated by the 13th Shito Bardiel. EVA-03 leveled the test site when it was powered up, and trapped the pilot inside it. Knowing that they have completely lost EVA-03's control to the Shito, Nerv sent out all three servicing EVAs to hunt it down. EVA-00 lost an arm in the process and EVA-02 damaged. EVA-03 was finally destroyed and torn to pieces by a Dummy Plug controlled EVA-01. Its pilot however managed to survive the tragedy.

EVA-04

This EVA was never featured but was said to have exploded during its first test power-up. The Subsidiary Nerv base in Germany was completely destroyed by the blast.




Entry Plug / Dummy Plug




The pilots of the Evangelion must first sit into a cylinder shape interface called the Entry Plug. The interface is then inserted into the back neck portion of the EVA. A liquid called LCL is used to fill the interior of the Entry Plug, making the pilot totally submerged in it. This special liquid aids the pilot in interfacing with the EVA and yet enabling the pilot to breadth normally. The interior of the Entry Plug is very spacious. In episode 8, 2 pilot was able to fit into the Entry Plug of EVA-02. Once inside the Entry Plug, the pilot is seated in a comfortable position with the controls of the EVA within his reach. The red Entry-Plug shown on the right is called a Dummy Plug, or also known as Dummy System Rei. It actually doesn't require a pilot to be in it to control an EVA. The capability of this Dummy Plug was featured in episode 18 against Shito Bardiel. The result was suprising good even though it was not fully developed yet. The origin of this Dummy System uncovers a dark secret of Ayanami Rei's existence.




Absolute Terror Field



As described previously, the A.T. Field created by the EVA shields the EVA from any conventional attacks. The Shito also has the ability to produce such a field. As witnessed in the series, the Shito not only used the A.T. Field to protect itself, it also used it to crush anything that comes into contact with the field. The picture above show EVA-01 supporting the Shito Sahaquiel using his A.T. Field in episode 12. EVA-01 however was able to successfully break the A.T.Field of the Shito in episode 2 and 19 following its 'berserker' change. The A.T Field of Shito Zeruel was slashed opened by a mere motion of EVA-01's hand!




Weapons/Equipments of EVA



[ Progressive Knife ]

It is a dagger which is stored in the left shoulder blade compartment of the EVA. The blade is made of a special material which causes it to glow. It seems that the Production Model EVA-02 uses a different kind of Progressive Knife that is contractable like a penknife or cutter. The only successful kill using the Progressive Knife was done by EVA-01 on Shito Shamshel. Featured in episodes 3, 8, 10, 12.

[ Pellet Rifle ]

Appears to be like a machine gun. It has very weak fire power and is not known to have penatrated any Shito's A.T. Field. Stored in special buildings in the city that will rise from the basement when is needed. Shito Matarael was killed by EVA-01 using this Pellet Rifle. Featured in episodes 3, 9, 11, 19

[ Positron Sniper Rifle ]

It is a very powerful weapon that is used to penetrate the A.T. Field of the Shito. This rifle requires a great deal of energy to function. There exist two types. One type looks like an ordinary rifle with a di-pod stand. The other type is affixed onto a support which the EVA is able to carry on its shoulders. Due to its complexity and resource usage of this device, an interval of about 10 seconds is needed before a second shot can be fired. This is to allow the weapon to recharge. It successfully penetrated the A.T. Field of Shito Ramiel and thus destroyed it. Featured in episodes 6, 9, 16, 18, 22.

[ Balundami Gun ]

It is a pistol weapon for the EVA. Seems to be a very weak weapon. There was no succesful kill of a Shito with the use of this weapon and it was only featured in episode 16.

[ Launcher Gun ]

Similar to a grenade launcher, this weapon seems to have no effect on the A.T. Field of the Shito. It is about the size of a the Pellet Rifle, but has lesser rounds. EVA-02 simultanously used two Launcher Guns to attack Shito Zeruel in episode 19. The Shito seems to be unharmed, thus confirming that this weapon is not very useful in the battle against the Shito.

[ Sonic-Glaive ]

A primitive spear-liked weapon that has blades made from the same material as that of the Progressive Knife. It is slightly longer than the height of the EVA. During the battle against Shito Israfel, EVA-02 sliced open the Shito using this weapon. Featured in episode 9.

[ Smash-Hawk ]

A crude axe shaped-liked weapon that is unlike he Sonic-Griep, seems to be quite useless. It was never really put into use, but it was featured in episode 16. EVA-02 just used it for support in climbing a building in the attempt to escape the attack of Shito Reriel.

[ N2 Bomb ]

This is the only conventional weapon effective against some of the Shito. This highly explosive bomb was able to temporary stop the attack of Shito Sachiel and Israfel. The later Shito Zeurel was unharmed by the explosion of this bomb. Created by the military, the use of this bomb was not intended to be used by EVA. But EVA-00 attempted a kamikaze attack with this bomb that fits nicely into the palm of an EVA. Featured in episodes 1 and 19. Mentioned in episode 9 and 10

[ EVA-00's Shield ]

This shield made out of high brid metal was made to withstand the blast of Shito Ramiel for 17 seconds. EVA-00 used this shield to protect EVA-01 during the cross-fire with Ramiel. But the shield melted and EVA-00 was badly damaged.

[ EVA D-Suit ]

The EVA D-Suit can withstand high pressure and heat. It looks like an over-sized deep sea diving suit. With pipes delivering coolen into the suit, the EVA inside it is made safe. It is featured in episode 10. If you think this EVA looks cute, wait till you see the pilot.


[ EVA Proprietry Battries ]

The battery packs are fitted behind the shoulder blades of the EVA. It provides temporary power to the EVA before its own internal power is used. Featured in episode 11.

[ EVA Power Consent ]

Is the connector of the external power supply for the EVA. The connector fits onto the spinal back area of the EVA. Many such connectors and cables are laid in Tokyo-3 Dai San Shin Tokyo Shi, to facilitate the EVA with power to fight against the Shito. Featured almost in Every episode.
