Complemented People : Characters


The characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion are created with so much care that each reflects a personality that adds up to make the show so perfect. So much life was put into the characters, forming relationships of love, kinship and friendship. The cast of voices were also well planned. In short, the character's emotions are well reflected and very touching.

The Fourteen Years Old

The new generation of teenagers in the show. Their birth after the global disaster "Second Impact" was promised a good life. But this was soon proved untrue. Mankind's survival depends greatly on these children.

The children of EVA

Children of the EVA are none other than their pilots. The reasons and criteria of being chosen as the EVA's pilot is not known. But one thing clear is that they are all children of 14 years old, and each was born about 9 months after the worldwide catastrophe "Second Impact". Under the secret plan of Seele, these children all come from or enrolled into a same school. Reasons are there to believe that it would be easier to protect these special children if they were together...


Ikari Shinji ( 3rd Children )
Sex : Male
Age : 14
Status : EVA-01 Pilot Voice : Ogata Megumi

The show's main character. Son of NERV's commander Ikari Gendou and Biogenetic Scientist Ikari Yui. His mother died when he was only 4 years old. His father left him with his teacher and continued to work on "Project Evangelion". After almost a decade, he came to Tokyo-3 on request from his father. Forced to pilot EVA-01, Shiji suffered in silence... He was always trying to escape from reality, but he soon learned to face life.


Ayanami Rei ( 1st Children )
Sex : Female
Age : 14
Status : EVA-00 Pilot Voice : Hayashibara Megumi

A girl with few words. She was trained as early as the initial successful EVA was created. In some way, she was "made" to pilot the EVA. Mysteries about her origin lies deep inside the Central Dogma and in commander Ikari Gendou. She respects and likes the commander Ikari Gendou because of an incident, and she kept a pair of Gendou's broken glasses She seldom shows her emotions and life means nothing to her... Until she met Ikari Shinji.


Sohryu Asuka Langley ( 2nd Children )
Sex : Female
Age : 14
Status : EVA-02 Pilot Voice : Miyamura Yuuko

A strong willed female character that never intends to lose to anyone or anything in life. She more or less volunteered to pilot the EVA to boast her abilities and to satisfy her hard-core personality. A German and Japanese mix, she lives in Germany with her foster parents and was trained to pilot EVA-02. She seems to have a tragic past concerning her mother and this somehow developed her current firm character.


Suzuhara Toji ( 4th Children )
Sex : Male
Age : 14
Status : EVA-03 Pilot Voice : Seki Tomokazu

A tough kid and a classmate of Ikari Shinji. Speaks in Osaka dialect. Initially, he hated Shinji because his younger sister was injured during the first battle of EVA-01 with Shito Sachiel. But they soon became good friends. It was not until episode 17 that he realised he was chosen to be the 4th children. He was fortunate to survive when his EVA-03 was taken over by Shito Bardiel.


Nagisa Kaworu ( 5th Children )
Sex : Male
Age : 14
Status : EVA-02 Pilot/The last Shito

A remarkable young man sent to NERV by Seele to take over Asuka's place as the pilot of EVA-02. He attained the best Synch rates among the three children during his first test. As mysterious as Ayanami Rei, there was no data on him that could be found in the computer. He is special in the sense that he was borned on the day of the "Second Impact". If he wasn't a Shito, he could have been the best EVA pilot. Then again if he wasn't a Shito, he might not have attained such perfomance.

Friends

The friends of EVA and their pilots. Unlike the others, they fight outside the battlefields, giving their pilot friends encouragement and best of all, offer their friendship and love.

Aida Kensuke
Sex : Male
Age : 14
Status : Military Fan Voice : Iwanaga Tetsuya

Shinji's first friend in school. Kensuke and Toji were very close friends and together with Shinji, the three was named "San baka trio" by Asuka. A Military and Mech fan, he was very interested in EVA and hopes to pilot one. He has a father which works for either the military of NERV. He sometimes peep at his father's work to get information on the EVAs.



Horaki Hikari
Sex : Female
Age : 14
Status : Chair Woman

Shinji's classmate and Chair Woman of the class. She has a very strong sense of virtue and responsibility, which Toji and Co. hates. She was much attracted to Suzuhara Toji's "gentleness" and was in love with him. She has an elder sister by the name of Kodama, and a younger sister named Nozomi but these two characters were just mentioned in the show.

Status : Katsuragi Misato's Pet

Before you ask question on why he is in the "Fourteen Years Old Category", I would like to explain that he was featured in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Neytype 100% Collection of that category... Besides, he seems to be quite young. And please note that I use "he" instead of "it" because I think he is smart enough to deserve being called "he". He is the new generation Onsen Pengiun, in other words, he can live in warm water. He lives in a special fridge in Misato's apartment. Has a liking for strong winds and like I said, very intelligent.


The Adults in NERV

The people reponsible for the creation and operation of the Evangelions. Was it for the sake for themselves or for mankind? But no doubt that these people played a part in making the show interesting and realistic.

NERV's Operators

The people working to make EVA's operations successful. A group of committed man and women, defending mankind from destruction. They can be said to be as brave as the pilots themselves.

Katsuragi Misato
Sex : Female
Age : 29
Status : NERV's Tactician

The person in charge of the operations of EVA against the Shito. She is the direct superior of all the pilots and she also volunteered to become the guadian of Shinji and Asuka. An attractive lady that ironically lacks the woman's touch. Her escape from the hands of death during the "Second Impact" left her speechless for many years. Her father, a scientist involved in a project that was said to have caused the disaster was killed. She joined NERV to find her lost self and to some extend, avenge her father.


Akagi Ritsuko
Sex : Female
Age : 30
Status : NERV's Technical Expert

The daughter of the late Akagi Naoko, creater of NERV's Super Computer MAGI system. She was also involve in the creation of EVAs in Project E. She has a cold personality that makes her silently strong. As a good friend of Katsuragi Misato since their early school days, she seldom confides her feelings. Suffering from the same fate like her mother's, her heart was put to work for the same man Ikari Gendou. This invited nothing more than suffering from the truth of mans' darkest secrets...


Ikari Gendou
Sex : Male
Age : 48
Status : NERV's Commander

Shinji's Father and husband of the late Ikari Yui. His name before the marriage was Rokubungi Gendou. The man behind numerous mysteries and the creation of EVA. As the commander of GALHIRN, later known as NERV, this man holds the answers to the numerous secret projects of creating artificial human and the research on the Shito. He has a hard-cold personality that makes him seems cruel at times. He will stop at nothing to reach his goal.


Fuyutsuki Kozo
Sex : Male
Age : 48
Status : NERV's Sub-Commander

NERV's Sub-Commander. He handles most of the work in the base whenever Gendou is not around. He got to know Ikari Yui and Gendou when he was working as a lecturer in Yui's College. Being intrepid and decisive, he plans before making any decisions. He might be the only person alive to understand Ikari Gendou. After the Second Impact, he discovered some secrets of Seele and GELHIRN. When he was about to expose the secret, he was asked to join GELHIRN by Gendou instead.


Kaji Ryoji
Sex : Male
Age : 30
Status : Spy

He was sent as a spy into NERV by the Investigation Department of the Government. He was sent to Tokyo together with Asuka, EVA-02 and what could be "Adam" from Doyce ( Germany ). During Katsuragi Misato's college days, he was her lover. A very attractive man especially to Asuka. He takes it very lightly when it comes to relationships and maintains a very positive attitude towards life.


Ibuki Maya
Sex : Female
Age : ??
Status : NERV's Operator

NERV's Technical Operator and the direct subordinate of Akagi Ritsuko. She usually works in the central battle control centre of NERV's base and monitors the operations of the EVA units. A very dedicated worker.




Aoba Shigeru
Sex : Male
Age : ??
Status : NERV's Operator

NERV's operator specializes in the battle operations of the EVA units. He is also incharge of most of the communications within NERV's Base. His direct superior is unknown, but there is a high possibility that he is Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki. He has a interest for guitars and music.


Hyuga Makoto
Sex : Male
Age : ??
Status : NERV's Operator

NERV's Central Battle operation specialist operator. His superior is Katsuragi Misato. He holds the same in rank with Ibuki Maya and Aoba Shigeru. Due to various reasons, he repects and secretly loves Misato. He often risk dangers to obtain information and accomplish tasks for Misato.


In Memory of...

The people who made everything possible but failed to live and see the results... It is for love that they lived and died. These people are not to be forgotton.

Ikari Yui
Sex : Female
1977 - 2004

Wife of Gendou and mother of Shinji. She excels in her field of bio-engineering and was a great helper of Fuyutsuki back in days in Tokyo University. Six years after her resignation, she married Gendou and later gave birth to Shinji. In 2004, she was said to have died during a test in the "Human Complement Project". She has certain features that resembles Rei...


Akagi Naoko
Sex : Female
19?? - 2010

Akagi Ritsuko's late mother and the creator of NERV's MAGI Super Computer. For the sake of Gendou, she worked hard to get MAGI operational. To what extent has her relation with Gendou is not known, but after she realise that she was being used to develope MAGI and not out of love, she committed suicide. Her brain was said to have been integrated into the MAGI system.
