Takayama album! Click here to go to Photo Island to check out an album of photos from my trip to Takayama November 1-2, 1999 with Anne Umphrey. In the "Guest" login area, type twcarey with the password hershey. You can also look at photos of our Thanksgiving 1999 trip to Hong Kong, check out the annual Seisen Carol Night and sing along at Kate's 11th birthday party. Also on Photo Island are many pictures taken since our return to the U.S. as well as three albums devoted to our trip to England and Scotland in June/July 2000.

Natasha and Paul's Wedding... we weren't there but we have several pictures anyway.

Lair of the Bear! Join us for a virtual visit to Camp Blue, Week 9.

Cherry Blossoms the first weekend in April in Tokyo.

New Zealand Adventure, December 1998! Yet another approach to displaying photos; please send me email and tell me what you prefer. Each link in this paragraph will take you to a page of photos with explanations. We enjoy a few days in Auckland before heading down the road to Rotorua and checking out all the volcanic activity in that area. We attended a Maori hangi feast and dance performance in Rotorua, which was great fun. The drive down to Wellington took us through Lake Taupo and past Huka Falls. In Wellington, we enjoyed visiting with the Symingtons (great view from their house!) and opening our Christmas presents. Then it was off to Queenstown, where we pinned the fun meter on 10 for five straight days. Horseback riding, parasailing, visiting Walter Peak farm, and flying around the Fiordlands were among the highlights. We also visited the glowworm caves at Te Anau and cruised Milford Sound. Then it was off to Christchurch where we stayed near the Cathedral and visited the beach. We also took a cruise of Akaroa harbor and went swimming with the dolphins. On our way to the airport, we visited the Antarctic Exploration museum. Can't wait to go back!

Beijing, Thanksgiving Weekend! I put some collections of pictures together, like an album page, because we took so many photos. Take a look at this montage showing our Thanksgiving dinner: Roast duck (also known as Peking Duck). Our waiter is pouring boiling water from a kettle with a really long spout into our tea cups. Check out the duck's head on the platter in the bottom left picture.

Forbidden City -- in this montage, Colleen, Kate and Theresa pose at the entrance, two of the courtyards open before us, and the back wall looms in front of the roofs of the buildings behind. In the second montage you'll see two of the magnificent marble Emperor's walkways, as well as three Careys with the statue of a mother and baby playing (can you find the baby?). And in this third montage, you'll see three lovely females pose at the gate to the concubine's quarters, details of the carvings on the roof, the Palace of Heavenly Purity, and Colleen and Kate posing in a gingerbread house in the hotel. (OK, the last shot wasn't from the Forbidden City … go ahead, sue me.)

The Great Wall -- we visited it on a beautiful, sunny (but cold) day. Here are two montages of photos: this one features several views of the wall, and one of Theresa enjoying the day. The second montage shows the kids with the "Mongol Warrior," Kent next to a sign telling him that great men must climb the wall, and Kate facing her fears and getting into the gondola for the ride up. Colleen and Kate pose on the wall, and here Kate buries a tooth in the wall for good luck. (She's still waiting for the luck to show up.)

Many MANY more Beijing pictures coming soon.

Photos of events prior to November 1998 are on the Photo Page now.
