The third angel, Sanchiel or something like that, is attacking Tokyo 3. Shinji Ikari (A 14 yr old with psychologial problems) is waiting for Misato Katsugari (a cute purple haired woman) to drive him to his father. What Shinji doesn't know is why his father requested him, after abandoning him so long ago. And all this time, the giant, humanoid angel is warring with the UN.

• While waiting for Misato, Shinji detects another being, despite the fact that the city has been evacuated. He sees Rei Ayanami (Later revealed to be another pilot.)in a survelance camera, but when he turns she is gone. He later sees her in the underground Nerv base, but she is very wounded, and could not have been standing outside earlier.
• Gendo Ikari wants Shinji to pilot Eva 01 (a test type giant robot made to war with the Angels). Only fourteen year olds are chosen (If you read the back of the video box.) to be the pilots.
• The 3rd Angel's name is Sakiel (Angel of Water). (I'm getting these names from the GAINAX game.)
• Gendo becomes impaient and sends for Rei, who has to be wheeled into the room. When the others protest he says "She is not dead." and tells her to pilot the Eva. Shinji feels guilty and decides to pilot.
• The episode ends with Shinji's Eva being shot out to the surface. He and the angel are face to face. To be continued...
• The Angel shoots crosses.

This was basically a resubtitle of the first episode except it had sexually jokes in it... oh wait... I mean more so then before. I didn't really get most of the jokes so I didn't think it was that funny.

This episode is a little strange. First, (spoiler here already) Shinji is losing very badly. His Eva's head has a hole drilled through it by the Angel's weapon. Blood-like liquid gushes out, and then... The scene cuts away to Shinji in bed. He says something about an unfamiliar ceiling and how he hates it. I don't recall what the chronological order is in the episode but he somehow defeats the Angel, moves in with Misato, and has a flashback of how he defeated the angel.

• To defeat the Angel, Shinji first had to lose control over his Eva. 01 became a beserker and did a bunch of weird stuff like regeneration and surviving a nuclear cross. He (the Eva) walks out and the faceplate falls out. While glancing in a reflection in the building, Shinji sees a organic head with a hole in it, that regenerates into an eye. He screams (I like his screams. Very horrifying and realistic.) and returns to where he began his flashback.

Shinji meets his two future friends in this one. One is a guy with glasses who loves violence, guns, and Evas. The other is a tough guy, Toji Suzuhara, who beats Shinji up for hurting his sister during the battle with the angel. Apparently a building fell on her. You also meet Hikari, the class rep. What is that? I dunno. Oh yeah! The pilots of the Evangelions have no mothers. Shinji, Rei, and those two guys have no living mothers. Now that I have seen ahead, I begin to wonder about that more and more.

• Shinji hates his father.
• Shinji hates piloting the Eva.
• Another angel attacks in this episode. This angel has two long energy whips. During the battle, Eva's energy cable is severed. To top things off, Suzuhara and the other guy get trapped outside. He lets them into the cockpit and is forced to fight the angel with the other two's brainwave interferance.
• 4th Angel Shamshiel (Angel of Day)
• He defeats the angel, but just as his energy runs out.

Shinji runs away. He sees Kensuke and stays with him until a bunch of guys take Shinji back. Well anyway, he has the choice of leaving or staying. Title Explanation: Dr. Ritsuko (Genius of Nerv) calls Shinji a hedgehog because he is afraid to be near others without hurting him. Just the way a hedgehog can't be near another without pricking them.

• He stays.

The episode begins with a flashback 20 something days before now. Rei is in her Eva 00, an orange Eva, and everything is fine till the Eva goes crazy. This is important, the Eva attempts to break the glass and kill Gendo Ikari, who just watches nonchalantly. After the attack, Ikari (The father) madly rushes the the tube thing that holds the pilot. He burns his hands while opening the door and ***smiles*** only when he sees Rei. Ikari does not smile. Then back to the present.

• Ritsuko discovers Angels are made of light particles and that they have almot a 98-99 % similarity to human DNA.
• While studying the angel, Shinji sees his father has burnt his hands. After asking, Ritsuko tells
• Shinji is very curious about Rei. He can't help but to stare at her photo when Misato asks him to deliver her new card to her.
• He finds out she lives in a dump and that she never answers her mail nor locks her door.
• He awkwardly walks in and discovers his fathers BROKEN glasses in Rei's apartment. He puts them on (Why?) and turns to see Rei coming into the room after a shower. She walks to Shinji and very aggressively takes the glasses back, BUT... this part is funny... you just have to see it...
• Anyway, she leaves while Shinji babbles out an explanation. He ends up following her to Nerv headquarters, leaving a good distance between them the whole time. He finally gives her the card when she finds that she cannot enter the base with her old one.
• She slaps Shinji when (In a rare burst of anger.) Shinji says how he does not trust his father.
• Rei pilots Eva 00 again and everything is ok.
• Shinji is horribly injured in the newest angel attack. (This one is a cube that shoots out super bursts of energy. It also has a drill that attempts to penetrate the base.)
• 5th Angel Ramiel (Angel of Thunder)
• It ends there.

There is no way to get close enough to destry the angel, so they set up a rifle that uses all the electricity in Japan to destroy the angel. On problem, Shinji fires the rifle, but Rei acts as a human shield during the attack (She has a shield of her own).

• Rei's eva is badly melted. Shinji ends up doing the same thing as his father by ripping open her cockpit to save her. He tells her not to say "sayonara" because it is too sad. He asks her to smile and she does.

A new weapon against the angels are created. A giant pilotless robot powered by nuclear stuff that will be superior to an Eva's 3 minute limit without power. Unfortunately for them, the robot is uncontrollable and just walks. (Oh yeah, it is going to explode.) Misato has Shinji hold the robot while she attempts to manually fix the robot herself.

• Ritsuko sabotaged the robot.
• Misato stops the robot.

Shinji, his friends, and Misato meet the second child, Asuka Langley on a boat carrying Eva 02 to Japan. She is half Japanese and half German. Her suit and Eva are red, and she hates Shinji and his friends (See the begining of the episode.) A new character, Ryoji Kaji, is also met. He is Misato's old boyfriend.

• An angel attacks during the transfer.
• 6th Angel Gagiel (Angel of Fish)
• An undersea battle occurs.
• Kaji escapes during the battle to give Gendo Ikari a fetus of some sort.

Asuka turns out to go to the same class as Shinji and Rei. An angel attacks again. This one is quickly cut in half by Asuka, but!! the two halves become separate angels and defeat the Evas. (Rei's Eva still hasn't been fixed yet.)

• Kaji gives Misato the plan to stop the angel.
• Which is to coordinate the attack to music, thus the two Evas will simultaneously defeat the angel.
• 7th Angel Israphael (Angel of Music)
• Misato forces Asuka and Shinji to work together by living together, practicing twister together, and by listening to music
• Asuka reveals her egotistical nature when she tells Shinji that she will get revenge on Rei and Misato (Because the teamwork was so poor, Misato told Rei to try coordinating with Shinji, and they worked much better).
• The night before the attack, Asuka sleep walks (?) and falls next to Shinji. He almost kisses her, but she begins to cry and says "mama". He decides to sleep in the next room.
• They defeat the angel.

An angel fetus/egg is found in the lava. They send Asuka down in an ugly suit to capture it. It is essential to the Human Advancement project or whatever that is that they get one.

• The angel is born and attacks Asuka.
• 8th Angel Sandalphon (Angel of Embryos)
• Her tubes are cut at the end and she would have plummeted to oblivion if not for the fact that Shinji caught her.
• You learn that there is a gain scar on Misato's chest because of the Second Impact. (The explosion in Antarctica that caused massive flooding. By now you should know that it was an angel and not an meteor that caused the explosion.)

A massive power outage and well timed cut scenes make this one of the most ironic episodes yet! During this failure a spider angel attacks. Asuka and the pilots are trapped outside and it is their difficult journey back underground that reveals themselves. The battle takes place in a vertical tube where the angel is dropping acid. The Evas are trapped below, they dropped their rifles, and their batteries are burned off so their time limit is on.

• 9th Angel Matriel (Angel of Rain)
• Asuka acts as a shield, Rei fetches the rifles that they drop, and Shinji blows the angel away.
• Was this when Rei, Shinji, and Asuka were talking about the darkness? Rei: "man is afraid of darkness so he chips away at it with light..."

We learn about Misato in this episode. Her father was a scientist who wasn't much of a family man. He saved her life during Second Impact (She was wearing her cross at the time) and so Misato lives to get revenge on the angels. She also receives a promotion. During this occasion an angel attacks by attempting to fall from space and quite possibly blowing up Nerv and the area around it when it lands.

• During the Misato flashback an Angel of light with giant wings is shown.
• Gendo is in Antarctica where all that is left is a sea of blood and ice. I think I saw a spear tied to one of the boats.
• 10th Angel Sahakiel (Angel of the Sky)
• Misato decides to fight the angel, despite the impossible odds. The plan is for the Evas to catch the angel, a difficult task because they don't know where the angel will land.
• The attack begins with the Evas ready to run to where ever the angel lands. During the run, however, Shinji's eva does a mysterious teleport thing and he is the first to catch it.
• They kill the angel.
• Gendo compliments Shinji.
• In the celebration afterwards, we learn that Rei doesn't like meat and that Shinji lives to hear his father's compliment. In the comic book, Shinji's need for his father's approval is more apparent.

During a test of some new Eva prototype, an Angel virus attacks. The pilots are ejected and the battle against the angel begins.

• 11th Angel Iroel (Angel of Fear)
• The new angel infects the Eva first and then attacks the Magi, the supercomputer.
• Two of the components of Magi BALTHASAR and MELCHIOR are taken over. Self destruct needs TWO components to stop it.
• Ritsuko messes with CASPER, the third component of Magi, and reveals to Misato that it was her mother that made the Magi. The brains that run the computer are her mothers (Literally. It is Ritsuko's mother's personality in the brains of the computer.) Anyway, the Magi stops the angel.

The first half is summary of all that has happened, reviewed by the committee named SEELE (German for Soul).

The second half begins with a poem by Rei. (Cool!) Then we are in Nerv and Rei and Shinji are testing each other's Evas out. For some reason, Misato says Asuka couldn't possibly use another Eva.

• When testing Eva 01, Rei says it smells like Ikari.
• When testing Eva 00, Shinji says it smells like Ayanami, to which Asuka says "What does he mean by that? Is he a pervert or something?"
• Eva 00 goes crazy again (I think they reused the footage from earlier) and tries to kill Rei the way it tried to kill Gendo. Shinji is fine.
• The episode ends with Rei walking in her Eva 00 somewhere with a giant spear. This isn't a big spoiler, but I think she's in Terminal dogma

Shinji and his father visit Yui Ikari's (Shinji's mother) grave. Shinji says that it is true that his father threw away all the photos, to which Gendo replies that he kept all the important things in his heart. Meanwhile, Ritsuko, Misato, and Kaji go to a wedding together and Misato becomes drunk.

• Shinji is staring at Rei again this episode. He watches her as she squeezes a towel while cleaning and later when she is in her Eva.
• When they meet in the elevator he asks her what his father is like. She asks him why she asks her, to which Shinji replies to by saying he saw them speaking happily together.
• Shinji changes the subject in the elevator. He tells Ayanami that she squeezes a towel like a mother. (I still don't quite understand that. Japanese culture?) He continues by saying that he thinks that she would make a good mother. She blushes and says "You're embarassing me.
• Misato and Kaji walk home together. She tells him that she left him because she was suprised that she was in love with a man that was just like her father. She then begins calling herself a coward like Shinji and a user of men. Kaji is angered by Misato's self-depreciation and kisses her.
• Shinji and Asuka have their first kiss, which doesn't work out well for either.
• Misato is returned home by Kaji.
• The next day there is a scene where Gendo is looking into a giant machine thing with a tube full of liquid. In that liquid is Rei. Gendo smiles at Rei. (Remember that the episode before, Ritsuko approved the Dummy Plug)
• Even deeper underground is Terminal Dogma where Kaji is breaking into Nerv LCL production plant. He is almost done when Misato jabs a gun into his head. She reveals Nerv's knowledge on Kaji's betrayl.
• Kaji says he can continue being as spy as long as Gendo uses him. Kaji opens the door and reveals Adam, (The first angel?). To be continued...
• Angel Adam

Very cool episode. A dilac sea, an angel which is in an inverted AT field, is swallowing everything up. It's like a giant cartoon hole, and it catches Shinji. Very important episode!!! Big spoiler!

• 12th Angel Reliel (Angel of Night)
• Shinji has a fascinating conversation with himself when he is hallucinating in the Eva.
• Ritsuko plans to defeat the angel by sending in all 992 N2 bombs in and activating the two remaining Eva's AT fields. What this does? I have no idea.
• Shinji has an important flashback where you see his mother's shadow. She says "Well that is good for you."
• The power (including life support) runs out. Shinji is dead!
• No he isn't. The Eva goes beserk and in a really destructive rage rips the Eva into bloody shreds.
• Ritsuko says "My god, what kind of monster did we copy?" and then later "Perhaps they (the Evas) hate us. Rei and Shinji would never forgive us if they knew what they were."
• Shinji wakes up in his bed. Rei is there. They say stuff and she says "Well that is good for you." Shinji notices something, although it may all be subconcious because he hasn't shown any conscious knowledge of it. For a spoiler clue on what this scene means, here is a manga equivalent, although the manga's hinting is less subtle than the anime.
• He smells himself and says he smells like blood.

This and the next one is basically about the Fourth Child (By the way, why does the manga and the title use the plural? Ex: Third Children or Fourth Children?) You'll know who it is after watching ten seconds of the episode, although Shinji won't learn who it is till the end of the next. Just for fun, I won't mention the name either.

• Eva 04 and the American facilities making it along with hundreds of thousands of people dissapeared/were blown up. Gendo says that things not predicted in the Dead Sea Scrolls can happen. Not the first mention of the scrolls.
• Eva 03 (Constructed in America) is being sent to Japan.
• Dr. Ritsuko unveils the uncompleted "dummy plug" based on Rei. It simulates Rei's actions, although there are still problems with it.
• The Marduk Institute has again found another pilot.
• Kaji tells Misato that the Marduk doesn't exist and that NERV is actually running everything. (Big surprise!).
• Hikari reveals her crush on Toji.
• Shinji and Toji deliver papers to Rei's apartment. They go inside and Shinji cleans up Rei's room. Rei enters and thanks Shinji.
• Later... Rei is lying on her bed. She says " 'Thank you'. Words of gratitude. Words that I have never used." Her eyes shift to Gendo's broken glasses. She says "Not even to him"
• Toji is called to the Principal's office, although when he enters Ritsuko's voice is heard from within saying "Are you Toji?"
• Toji, is depressed and doing work after school. Hikari offers to cook lunch for Toji. Toji half-heartedly agrees, totally oblivious to her ulterior motive.
• Eva 03 is seen flying to Japan. (It's posed on a cross.  oooh!)

I just have to ask... What does Misato mean when she says there will be "more fan service" in the episode previews?

This episode begins with Eva 03 being flown to America. It enters a cloud and an omnious cackle of lightning occurs...

• Eva 03 arrives 2 hours late.
• Toji and Rei are alone at lunch (He must have forgot about Hikari due to his need to talk to an eva pilot). He asks her if she knows. He then says everyone knows except for Shinji and Kensuke.
• Toji then says that it is rare for Ayanami to care about others. Then he gets Rei to admit that she cares about Shinji. She says "Maybe that's true."
• Eva 03 is in a test facility. The pilot synchs with the Eva right before a panel pops open with weird organic webbing holding it in.
• Misato: Angel!
• The facility explodes.
• Eva 03 stomps around. Gendo fails to eject the pilot as well as stop the Eva. Even though it is pattern orange, Gendo says list the Eva as the 13th Angel, and orders the children to destroy it.
• Pattern Orange: 13th Angel Haldiel
• Asuka is beaten up while attempting to tell Shinji who the pilot is. Rei's arm is blown off when Eva 03 attempts to capture the arm.
• Shinji would rather die than hurt another.
• Gendo terminates Shinji's connection and initiates the dummy plug. Shinji: "What the hell are you doing father!?"
• This is a heart-racing scene. Eva 01 breaks the neck of Eva 03, stomps the head into a stain of blood, and rips it apart. (Very graphic because Eva 03 has teeth, like a human.) Then Shinji sees Eva 01 holding the pilot's plug. It is crushed before Gendo deactivates the program.
• Misato and Ritsuko are revealed to be alright.
• Dramatic irony! Scene of Hikari cooking and hoping Toji... oops... oh well, will eat with her
• Misato contacts Shinji, who is still in the Eva. She apologizes and just begins to tell Shinji who the pilot is when Shinji looks out of the window, hearing that the pilot is alive. He sees. Misato, worried that Shinji is not responding desperately calls his name. He screams.
