These are some of the acronyms and shorthand terms we use on the Ranma ML. If you're confused about what a certain term means, most of them should be here. Email me with any ones that I missed....
AD: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Akane's Dojo."
Anime vs. Manga: Much discussed topic pertaining to the question of validity of Anime references in terms of characterization as opposed to the Manga, which was the original work.
Arigato: Japanese term meaning "Thank You."
Baka: Japanese term meaning "fool" or "idiot".
Best Babe War: Much discussed topic on one of two things - 1) Which fiancee is the best for Ranma or 2) Which Ranma 1/2 female is the best.
Bitter End (BE): A much-discussed fanfic on the Ranma ML in the past, it is a darkfic written about Akane. Numerous discussions have been held on whether or not the situation written is a plausible one.
BT: An acronym standing for "Bakusai Tenketsu", the technique of shattering rock learned by Ryouga.
BTW: An acronym standing for "By The Way".
Canon: As it pertains to the ML, this refers to the Manga.
Character War: Refers to a heavy discussion/comparison of two Ranma 1/2 characters.
Clone: Manifestations of copies of the Ranma 1/2 or other Anime characters, as "created" by the members of the Ranma ML.
COHD: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Cathedral of Hiroshi and Daisuke."
CoN: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Church of Nabiki."
CoR: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Church of Ryouga."
CoRR: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Church of Ranma-chan and Ryouga."
DoCo: A Japanese singing group comprised of the Japanese voice actors for Onna-Ranma, Nabiki, Kasumi, Akane, and Shampoo.
DoE: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Disciples of Eriond."
Domo Arigato: A Japanese term meaning "Thank you very much."
Dub: A noun referring to the "dubbed", or English speaking version of the Ranma 1/2 Anime.
Ecchi: Literally the phonetic sound of the "h" in the Japanese word "hentai", this is usually an adjective or a noun which means "perverted".
Faction War: Refers to a conflict between two or more of the groups which exist on the Ranma Mailing List.
Flame: Refers to an attacking and usually personally insulting post to one or more individuals.
Flame War: Refers to several posts between two or more people which are personally insulting and attacking.
Gate: Refers to one or more "gates" of the UGMA members, whose mission and purpose is to protect the ML.
Gomen: Japanese term meaning "I'm sorry."
Gomen Nasai: Japanese term meaning "I'm very sorry."
Hammerspace: The term for describing the fictional extradimensional place where the Ranma characters get certain things out of thin air, i.e. Mousse weapons, kettles of hot water, etc. Named for Akane's frequent and notorious ability to pull Hammers and mallets from this plane.
Hentai: A Japanese term meaning "pervert".
HSH: An acronym standing for "Hiryu Shoten Ha", the technique Ranma learned when he was weakened by Happosai.
IC: An acronym standing for "In character."
IMHO: An acronym standing for "In My Humble Opinion".
IMNSHO: An acronym standing for "In My Not-So-Humble Opinion."
IMO: An acronym standing for "In My Opinion".
IRL: An acronym standing for "In Real Life".
Kawaii: A Japanese term meaning "cute".
KFC: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Kuno's Fan Club."
KOD: An acronym standing for "Kiss Of Death", the sign Shampoo and other chinese Amazons use to signal that they will follow you until they kill you.
KTF: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Knighthood of the True Fiancee."
Lurker: Term for someone who is subscribed to the list, but is not posting.
LOR: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Loyal Order of the Ribbon."
Malletspace: Another term for "Hammerspace", see above.
ML: An acronym standing for "Mailing List".
MO: An acronym standing for "Maotome Okuri".
Newbie: A term for someone who has not been on the Ranma ML for very long, or who is unaware, for the most part, about how it works.
OAV: An acronym standing for "Original Animated Video".
OCS: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Order of the Cold Shower."
OLA: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Our Lady of the Axe."
OOC: An acronym standing for "Out Of Character".
Otaku: A term used for a hardcore Anime fan. Normally a derogatory term, the title of otaku has nevertheless been taken proudly by many Anime fans.
Post: Refers to someone's contribution to the Mailing List.
Poster: Refers to someone actively participating in the ML discussions.
RL: An acronym standing for "Real Life".
SAUCE: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Society for the Appreciation of Ukyo, Cuteness Embodied."
Shampoo Hair Color: A discussed-to-death topic on the ML revolving around the controversy surrounding the color of Shampoo's hair.
SOD: An acronym standing for "Spring of Drowned...".
SPAM: As it pertains to the Ranma ML, it means anything off-topic that is not related to Ranma.
Sub: Short for "subtitled", this is a noun referring to the subtitled-in-English episodes of the Ranma Anime.
Subs vs. Dubs: A much discussed topic, this revolves around preference to the subtitled versions of the Anime episodes, or the dubbed ones.
TAATM: An acronym standing for the ML faction "The Army Against the Mouse."
TKSP: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Tendo Kasumi School of Philosophy."
Top Poster: The unofficial title held by the person who posts the most to the ML in one month.
ToTA: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Temple of Tendo Akane."
UGMA: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Unlucky Gods Martial Artists."
USSRTFW:SR: An acronym standing for the ML faction "United Support for the Star of Rumiko Takahashi's Finest Work: Saotome Ranma."
VA: An acronym standing for "Voice Actor".
Veteran, Vet: A term given to a Ranma ML member who has been on the ML for an extended amount of time and who has also gained a prominent presence on it in some form or shape. There is no real concrete definition for when "veteran" status is defined or given.
WoS: An acronym standing for the ML faction "Worshippers of Shampoo."
