Episode 1: Prelude to the Legend
*** Chronologically. this episode takes place after episode ###. ***
A storm has overtaken a group of travelers on their
way to the ruins of the ancient Dwarven Tunnels. They huddle under their
cloaks, their breath coming out as visible steam in the cold climate of
the surrounding mountains... we can catch glimpses of their faces in the
flashes of reflected lightning strikes. when the party arrives at the entrance,
they toss their cloaks onto the resident gargoyles and give the place the
once-over. Among the first to speak are Woodchuck the thief, the wizard
Slayne and the burly dwarf, Ghim. Following close behind are the elven
faery-wizard Deidrit, the Cleric Eto, and the groups de facto leader, Pan.
The intruders into this sacred place are soon attacked
by the gargoyles, who have now come to life...the warriors draw their weapons
and gather around Eto; and soon, the battle is joined: Pan draws his longsword
while Deid unsheathes her rapier and Ghim, a double-bladed axe. Wood tries
to avoid the critters, while Slayne and Eto must make do with only their
staves. Wood draws first — and just about only — blood when he slashes
a gargoyle with his dagger. Meanwhile, Slayne tells the others to get inside
while he does what wizards do best...[[note: his spells are different in
the dubbed version]]...The monsters are soon reduced to powder, and Slayne
quickly realizes that someone doesn't want them to reach the sage, Wort...
The sage in question, meanwhile, gets a visit from
an old friend...problem is, that friend is now a Neutral witch called Karla,
and she has gained the nifty little ability to possess other peoples' bodies...She
currently inhabits that of Lairia, the daughter of an old friend of Ghim's...Back
with our heroes: Deid accidentally sets off an old trap, causing both herself
and Pan to get drawn into a secret room below the Tunnel.
The scene shifts briefly to just before the quest
to find Wort began...The place is the Court of Valis, and Pan is kneeling
before King Fahn...It is revealed that Pan is the son of one of Fahn's
former Holy Knights, Sir Teseus...Once Pan and his party have left, Fahn
tells the visiting "Mercenary King", Kashue, that he regrets sending Teseus
out on a certain mission, one which resulted in his Knight's dying, and
falling into some sort of disgrace...
Pan and Deidrit are now trapped beneath the main
Tunnel area, in a room whose walls are covered with paintings of the War
of the Gods, the very war which caused Lodoss to be physically split off
form the main continent a long time ago...Deid sumons up the Light Spirits
which inhabit the area, illuminating it and aloowing the pair to see the
mural painted upon the walls...Slayne does the same for the party members
up in the tunnel...Deidrit then calls upon the aid of Sylph, the spirit
of Wind, to guide her and Pan out of the tunnel as Wort and Karla look
on...
The good news: the party reunites near the end of
the tunnel...The bad news: a really BIG dragon is...or should I say, was,
sleeping there...until it senses Pan and Deid's presence...Pan, in true
heroic fashion, tries to fight the thing one-on-one when it corners him
and the elf...I believe the correct term for this is"Heroic Idiocy"...They
are saved from getting char-broiled only thanks to Slayne's timely interference...At
which point, Pan charges again...oy vey...and then Ghim does the same,
having only slightly better luck...Wood chucks a dagger into the dragon's
left eye [pun VERY much intended], sending it rearing up in pain...Pan
finally takes a reasonable chance, and stuffs his sword up through the
overgrown lizard's exposed lower jaw...allowing the party time to get their
butts the heck outta there...[[NOTE: in the dubbed/SCI-FI Channel version,
all the blood and most of the violence in this scene is cut out for some
reason...making it a very short and confusing scene indeed...]]
Episode 2: Departure of the Blaze / aka, Blazing Departure
***Chronologically, this is the first episode, I think they're just trying to confuse us...Then again, maybe their intent was aimply to get people interested in the series ^_^ ***
Ghim, with laden pack, is preparing to search for
Lairia, the daughter of his good friend, the Priestess Neese. Lairia has
been missing for seven years now, and even her mother has all but given
up hope of ever seeing her child again...
Around Pan's home village, a girl is attacked by
a pack of marauding goblins. Pan runs to her aid, even tho he is armed
with only a stick to use against their heavy armour and weaponry...miraculously,
he not only survives with only a small scratch, but manages to kill one
of the buggers before they run off back into the woods; his old friend
Eto shows up, who is now a novitiate of the goddess Falis; Eto heals the
young hothead's injury just before a small mob of villagers busts in, angry
at Pan for killing the goblin...all of them except for the mayor are oblivious
to the fact that he saved a village girl's life in the process, of course...
The goblins in their cave become controlled by some
dark force, but what that force is is yet to be determined...Ghim stops
by the nearby home of the village wizard, Slayne; the mayor comes in soon
afterwards for advice about the goblin threat...Out in the forest, Deidrit
is out enjoying the world around her...she does bring whole new
meaning to the term "tree hugger", after all...when she notices an army
of normally-nocturnal goblins marching towards the village in the middle
of the day...Pan, our resident hothead, is in his house thinking
about the past days' events...He takes up his late father's armour and
sword, resolving to finish what he started with the goblins...
