17th May, 1999
This night was the night that I hunt with Haruko and Rukawa. A few hours ago we slipped outside blending into the night out in search for a meal.
The three of us are living in Rukawa's house at the edge of the Shohoku district, by the way, making me wonder how and why he would travel that far to the area where Haruko and I lived and to change our fate forever.
Anyway, when we left the house, I was using a dark brown attire with elegant cutting, the dull colour enhancing the fierce colour of my hair. My maker, Rukawa, was dressed in the darkest blue that it seemed black from afar. His clothes were simpler than mine in fasion but it still made him breathtaking to watch. Haruko was like a dream princess with her dark green, knee-lengthed dress with slits on the sides, her hair tied in a french braid. It was what Rukawa preferred, for us to dress in dark colours so that we would attract less attention when we would go out.
Money is easy since Rukawa is loaded with shares from the biggest regional and international companies. He would buy Haruko and I clothes and accessories of the popular and best quality. We have only one car. Black. As corny as it sounds, it befits us for we are the people of the night.
The times when we would escape the confines of the large but silent house would only be at night to shop, hunt for prey or to just enjoy the night life with the crowd of mortals.
It is fair of me to brag that we make quite a trio with our looks and the aura that we exude. We are pale as if the sun has not touched us since birth, even with my skin a bit darker than my two companions. Our lips are pink like born babes and our eyes glitter, changing colours fitting our mood. Rukawa said that our eyes are our power. Mortals would be entranced and it would be easy for us to feed suggestions into their mind with one look and that was what we use when we go out, to make the people around us unconcious of our presence.
We could also extract thoughts and feelings from the mortals with our extra mind perception. It was dizzying for me at first, these powers, but Rukawa and Haruko coached me to be able to filter unwanted perception to get to the ones needed which are clearer when I am able to concentrate.
I learnt a lot of things I did not when I was alive. My vampiric brain seems to be able to soak up all the knowledge that crossed my way better than before. I still think learning things such as physics and mathematics are boring but bit by bit I learnt how they fit into the schematic of life and that made it easier to bear those tedious self-tutorials. Rukawa is like me, learning only because he has nothing else to do and it also helps him to understand the going-ons in the companies he has power over. It would not do to have an immortal defeated by a lower being.
Yeah, I guess I have now classified myself as other than human.
Hmmm...
Haruko is cleverer than both of us since she's more sincere in her quest for knowledge and she's kind of the wise advisor for us, our sweet angel who we protect with our lives. I'm kinda the one who likes to crack jokes and irritating Rukawa would be my favourite past-time if we weren't playing basketball. Y'know it surprised me when I first knew about it - that Rukawa would be a basketball fanatic like me because you wouldn't believe how many hours he'd spend sleeping while Haruko and I enjoy the night watching people and the nature itself.
Rukawa is the most experienced and we would often turn to him when something puzzles us, something new and mysterious and sometimes frightening. I know Haruko loves Rukawa sometimes to distractions and I know her love for him is greater than it is for me. I hated him for that. How Rukawa feels about me is peculiar though. Sometimes he would insult me while educating me about my new life but sometimes he would suddenly embrace me and I would unconciously embrace him back. I'm confused about it. I said before that I hate him but I can't help but also admire his dark beauty, an opposite to Haruko's light. It lures me to him as strong as a moth to a flame.
Back to the hunt, the three of us were at the park when we spotted a drunken man sleeping near the dry-water fountain. We moved out of the shadow in perfect silence and when we stepped closer I could strongly smell the blood through his light skin even though he was reeking with the odour of alcohol. Haruko must've sensed my hunger for she said, "He's yours, Hana-kun. Rukawa and I will take the next one."
I wanted to protest - that she should be the one to have the first bite but I was already walking towards the man, kneeling to pick him up by the arms. I didn't need to bodily get him to stand up because he was already opening his eyes and with my new powers he let himself be pulled up without a struggle. It was akward for me because this man was just my second prey and the first one I had taken made me look like a sloppy drinker. Suddenly Rukawa was behind the man, guiding me through the process. He helped me get a proper hand hold with my prey and whispered in my ear to take it slowly and carefully as I sunk my teeth into the man's vein. As I drank Rukawa ran his fingers through my hair and when I was done he then grazed his knuckles on my flushed cheek. I managed not to stain my clothes this time so I was pleased.
Haruko beamed and nodded her head. We found another walking meal, a vagabond wandering aimlessly in the streets and he too did not put up a fight as the first. Haruko took him with ease and if someone were to watch her in action she would only look like a young girl hugging her love in one moonlit night. When she was done Rukawa ruffled her hair approvingly and she smiled in happiness. As we were walking down the empty street a punk suddenly appeared and demanded us to give him our money as he pointed a gun to us. Rukawa was beside him before he knew it and disarmed the thief easily. The punk wanted to scream but he didn't for he couldn't because his mind wouldn't let him. Haruko and I watched as Rukawa feasted and when he was done he licked the wound shut so that whoever would find his body would not suspect any foul play - probably only reporting the death caused by malnutrition since Rukawa (as Haruko and I did earlier) was careful not to drink too much.
Like the first time the blood made me feel kinda hyped, my senses heightened and the cells in my body thrumming with the new energy. My friends must have been affected by the blood like I was because Haruko was showing restlessness and Rukawa's eyes glittered with new colours that I have never seen before in those deep, blue eyes. Haruko instantly wanted to go to a night club and I know if given the chance Rukawa would rather go back home to sleep off the effects but Haruko wanted all of us to go to this night spot and have fun. We managed to enter the club without any trouble (see how cool the powers are?) and got a seat at the side of the dance floor. It was a great looking place with loud music and clean company but seeing only a handful of these rich looking patrons made me relise that the place was the underground kind, where only the ones who matter can enter. As soon as we sat down, Haruko was approached by a sleezy looking guy who asked her to dance with him. Haruko smiled and accepted his invitation and just as I was standing up to stop her, Rukawa pulled me back down.
"She can take care of herself," he said.
Hell, I knew that. I was just jealous, dammit! But seeing her enjoying herself on the dance floor I just couldn't bring myself to ruin the night for her so I sat back, allowing Rukawa's arm to rest at the back of the booth's seat around me. I was still glaring at Haruko and that jerk when I felt Rukawa's arm slip lazily on and around my shoulder bringing me closer to him. He managed to grab my attention from Haruko by turning my face towards him giving me the first open-mouthed kiss I have ever been given. I've always dreamed of kissing with tongues and all with a girl, especially with Haruko but never have I dreamed of receiving it from a guy. Rukawa has kissed me before but only on my face and even if his mouth did touch mine, our lips were always closed. But I knew that because the person that was giving me my first french kiss was Rukawa, my shock didn't seem all too major.
He is my maker, my enemy, my teacher.
Maybe it was the blood because Rukawa was kissing me with barely restrained lust and I was doing the same.
I was already far gone, my fingers threading their way through his soft hair when I heard a cough from behind me. I was startled out of the occupation but what surprised me more was that the person was sitting so close to me that his chest was touching my back without me realising that he had sat down. He was shorter than I am, his hair cropped short but stylishly so that it gave him a may care and dangerous look with the way his held himself, together with that small scar on his chin. I could feel some sort of power coming from him and when I finally made a connection on how similiar the feeling was when I was with Rukawa and Haruko did I then know that he was like us. A vampire.
"I hope I'm not disturbing," said the newcomer, slipping his arm to rest against my shoulder to touch Rukawa's.
"Hn," Rukawa snorted, "It's been a long time, Mitsui."
The vampire, Mitsui chuckled, "It was you who disappeared, Rukawa."
Then he looked at me while still talking to Rukawa, "So, did you make him?"
Rukawa nodded, "Un."
"Thought as much," said Mitsui, wrapping his other arm around me to hold my other shoulder from behind. "I can smell your blood in him," he murmured as he dropped his head to nuzzle at my neck. I let him, leaning back against him to brush my cheek against his forehead. He was smooth as much as he was beautiful even with that scar. He lifted his head and smiled at me, showing his two pointed teeth every vampire is born with when they become. I thought Rukawa mysterious and dangerous but as I gazed at Mitsui, I felt that he also was one to be wary of with the way he looked at me with his deep blue eyes.
Mitsui reached up to run his long fingers through my hair, "You're lovely, like the fire. Does your soul match your beauty?"
I nearly arched an eyebrow at him. Why was this guy talking like this? As if I was a chick to be wooed? I know I use words like those in my journal, maybe catching it from the old books I have been reading but if I was to talk like that out loud I'd have drowned myself, live again and dump myself back in the water the second time!
But for Mitsui it melted out of his tongue like sweet chocolate and I'm drawn to him at once.
"Very much," Rukawa spoke for me his palm gently caressing my back.
"And how about her?" Mitsui asked cocking his head towards Haruko who was gyrating to the music on the dance floor. Even with the fast number she managed to look sensual.
"Also by my act," Rukawa stated.
I shifted myself out of Rukawa's embrace and he let me go without any protest. Mitsui still has his arm around my shoulder.
Yeah, I remember. Why I joined Rukawa was because Haruko was with him. I have yet to know why he brought Haruko over to this new life.
As if by some mental thought, Haruko turned towards us and seeing the new vampire I saw from her eyes that he knew what he was.
Ignoring the protests from her dance partner, she made her way towards our table and gracefully slid into the booth beside Rukawa.
"Haruko, Mitsui. Mitsui, Haruko," Rukawa did a quick intro.
Haruko nodded and Mitsui smiled, "You've brought an angel in our midst, Rukawa."
Haruko giggled while Rukawa shrugged. I was still trapped between him and Rukawa, aware that our close positions did not change even when Haruko joined us.
"Two in one millenia, Rukawa? Feeling very lonely I see," grinned Mitsui.
I heard him say the word millenia ... so I guess that explains the talk then.
Rukawa scowled thinly but affectively.
Mitsui titled his head in amusement before he stood up, "Well, I've got to go now. I haven't taken a drink for a week. Ja!"
Haruko waved back and Rukawa merely nodded his head. I was still feeling the warmth of his body behind my back.
"It's about time we also went back, ne, Rukawa?" Haruko said.
Rukawa stood up and Haruko and I followed suit. When we reached the house Haruko kissed both of us on the cheek before she retired for her coffin in her room. Rukawa, for his part, leaned forward and brushed his mouth on the opposite cheek where Haruko's lips has touched and said "Sleep well" before also disappearing into his room.
Well, I guess that question about him bringing Haruko and I over will just have to wait until tomorrow.
