Konna Panic Konna Panic is another venture by Asagiri into fantasy, but unlike Min Min, her characters are not as inventive.

Kisaragi Mai was born as a coward, a weakling, the kind of person everyone takes advantage of but never notice. Her object of affection was the school's basketball star Kai Takumi. That's where the story would have begun and end as well, if something odd didn't happen.

One day, tired of being mocked Mai suddenly seemed to gain supernatural power during basketball practice. A mysterious man (Ran) then sought her out. He told her that she was in fact part fox. Ran then told her about a commonly known folk tale a fox spirit who married a farmer. One day while swatting flies with her tail, her husband saw her true form. The fox then ran away leaving her husband and child. Apparently, Mai's family was one of the descendants of this fox spirit. Mai disbelieved the story at first, but her transformation into a quasi fox-human figure convinces her that there must be something in the story after all.

Thus, with Ran's help, Mai was able to try and continue living a "normal" life. Ran becomes a surrogate brother who looked out for her and bullied her endlessly for being stupid, stupid and yes stupid. Even with Ran's help, people can't help but notice the odd things, which seemed to continue happening around Mai. This is particularly true for Takumi, who began paying close attention to her after she visited him when he sprained his ankle before a big game. Though, Ran objected vocally about being too involved with any human, the trio became firm friends. Being together with Takumi so often also helped Mai's self confidence a little and something tender starts to bloom between them. Ran realised that in order for Mai to lead a normal life he himself must disappear and force Mai to forget. In order to do this he hypnotized her to forget and asked Takumi to take care of her.

All seemed to be going well, when Mai met a mysterious boy who could transform into an eagle. Her memories returned, compelling Ran to return as well and disturbing the growing relationship between Takumi and Mai...

Mai Kisaragi Mai
Our heroine, a timid girl studying at Hongou Junior High. Currently in her second year.

Takumi Kaai Takumi
Mai's crush, a star of the basketball team. He's the type who would always try to look cheerful even when he's not.

RanRan - The White Fox
He takes a brotherly interest in Mai, due to pact loyalty as well as genuine fondness. He and Mai are the last of their kind, though as he said to Mai, his blood is "purer". He doesn't want Mai to be rejected due to her fox like appearance, as he was a few years ago. It was this single experience, which perhaps made him so overprotective. Oh and he's very good with illusions, he'll make money out of thin air for example or suggest to the landlord to board for free.

Meiko Kaai Meiko
Takumi's older sister, a fanatic about fox folklores when she saw Ran transforms one day. She would like to get closer to him, if only he didn't run away so often. Actually, she's more intelligent than what I make her out to be. She has an acid tongue, but at times can be very kind to Mai. I just find her humorous when she tries to hunt Ran down.
