Chapter 10:
The Ambush Near Dol Guldur

Meanwhile, an odd-looking being were observing the whole situation. The ent, Ella Woodskin, had been following the travelers for a while now from a distance and had witnessed the ambush of the forces of Dol Guldur on them. Knowing that these are good people (anybody who are the enemy of Orcs must be since Orcs are notoriously evil), Ella had decided on helping them by taking out those Orcs that came near her, much to the Orcs’ surprise.

The seven were locked in a fierce combat with the swarms of Orcs. They were doing a decent job of reducing the Orcs forces but soon exhaustion begun to take hold of them. Finally, Karla, in a moment of desperation, had used her medallion on them. But even if those that had surrounded her perished, her stamina was spent and she watched as other Orcs flocked around her again.

Meanwhile, another traveler had chanced on the ambush. Fánëfalma was resting by the Anduin River when the sounds of battle reached her ears. Peering through the trees she saw the group fighting off the trap that had befallen on them. She decided to help, and shot the Orcs that came into her view with her bow. So involved was she in her actions that she did not notice the tree that she was using as a support moved and she stumbled. So Fánëfalma met Ella Woodskin and together they helped the waylaid group by taking care of the Orcs that came their way.

Marlon was sickened to experience his first taste of battle but was doing well. Suddenly he heard a scream and then a blinding flash of light as Karla had used her magic. He went swiftly to her supporting her as she was power was depleted. But the Orcs was spilling over them and he could not kill them all. Fortunately Theomer came to their rescue and slowly they made their way to where Carisan and Dyred were.

At the enemy side, things are not as they had planned it.

Alan Lee -- Black Riders

Though the Orc leader was jeering at the group before, he was silently angry right about now. His troops were being decimated and not one of those people had been killed! What makes the matter worse is the appearance of the ent and another elf who were killing off his reserve units. He heard the horses of the Nazguls' shift and suddenly cold sweat tricked on his back. One of them spoke.

"Durbalûk, you know that if you fail this you will never return to Dol Guldur alive."

"Yes, sir."

"Well, then go there and lead the rest of your pathetic troop until neither you nor that group is alive."

"Y-yes, sir." Durbalûk signaled the remaining Orcs and all at once rushed into the battle.

After Durbalûk left, the three Nazgul decided to join in the fray. In a flash, they galloped to where the ent and the elf were busy killing off their Orc troop...

Fánëfalma and Ella were enjoying themselves as they eliminate the Orcs who are now aware of the newcomer elf and ent. But they never imagined that they’d soon face a terror a great deal more terrible than the Orcs they destroyed. Like a nightmare, they saw three dark shapes, the Nazgul descend upon them.
