Tolkien's World

Roger Garland -- Gates to the Void

"But the other Ainur looked upon this habitation set within the vast spaces of the World, which the Elves call Arda, the Earth: and their hearts rejoiced in light, and their eyes beholding many colours were filled with gladness..."

-- Ainulindale, "The Silmarillion"

Though it's tempting to include all there is in these pages, I've forced myself to set some limitations.

First, I had given primary importance to what Mr. Robert Foster calls the "Text", that is, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.

Second, I've assumed that most of the readers know and read at least The Lord of the Rings and are not surprised with most of the names mentioned here. In fact, this page should be considered as a supplement only. If you want a honest-to-goodness Middle-Earth reference, I suggest Robert Foster's book which I've put as one of my own references.

Third, note that if you have not read The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion yet, you cannot read the next pages without "spoiling" yourself to the books. So read at your own risk. Don't blame if there isn't a thrill when you finally read them, given that I gave the description of many important things here.

Fourth, the past few weeks that I had been writing these pages were fulfilling but were really excruciating that now that I'm finished, I could proudly say that in Tolkien's universe I could really apply as one of the King's Writers. So please, do not copy anything from these pages without asking for my permission to do so. Doing that could make you get into trouble, you'll see.

Lastly, the entries here are not representative of Tolkien's universe nor are complete in their description. They are included because they are necessary as supplements to the RPG that is currently being played and they are described according to what the webmistress think are important points. If you think that there is something missing that I should really had placed in the pages, please mail me at eowyn@edsamail.com.ph.
